Hello,

Social events have been a bit challenging to say the least. Do you find that you are now avoiding eating out with friends, co-workers and sometimes family members because of gluten contamination?! We are. Let's chat and if we find that we live in driving distance to each other., perhaps we can form our own social group.

We are a married couple, no children and we are both gluten sensitive. Our one and only safe and favorite restaurant serves Indian food exclusively. We are open to other recipes.

I'm not in your area, but yes, social situations become more challenging. We don't get invited over to eat as often (although our really close friends have all learned to deal with it), and the folks at the office rarely ask me out for lunch. I have to initiate it.

Do you entertain? If you ask others over then you can control what's on the menu. As for restaurants, do you have Outback, PF Chang, or Bonefish Grill in your area? They both have gluten-free menus. This doesn't mean there isn't contamination sometimes, but at least you know what you can try to eat.

Tammy-

I am a long ways away (oregon) so getting together would be hard, but your mention of indian food got me curous. I have basically given up going out to ANY ethnic food (except sushi) because I keep on fainling to be able to explain what I need to folks in the kitchen who may not speek english. I have gotten burned too many times.

I really miss indian food, my favorite!, but have been too intimidated to try. Do you have to get very specific with your requests? Is the food mostly gluten-free in the first place?

Hi Libbyk,

We love both of the Indian restaurants especially because they make most of their food withour wheat! Of course we do not eat the NAAN and the Rotis. But their pakoras are made with chickpea flour and are yummy. I do ask if the oil is fresh and not used for frying wheat products. We eat most of their menu choices and love it!

@Scott Adams Thank you so much for this thoughtful and encouraging reply 💛 It really helps me feel less alone navigating all of this! I’ve definitely been strict gluten-free, but I’ll admit — in the beginning, I honestly knew nothing about cross-contamination 😅 so it’s very possible my gut is still healing from that. I feel very abnormal because I am not a typical celiac or a typical Crohn's, so it makes me feel very stuck.

Hi still the same unfortunately, they had to cancel my colonoscopy due to my trapped nerve , I'm awaiting some kind of scan , it was the nurses who  told me to refuse and asked a docter , and I was told to cancel and go back to my consultant , I think because my sciatic nerve is compressed between my herniated discs , the prep was enough I could handle , but the colonoscopy itself , they advised me to seek something different ,due to the position I had to be in and the movements , so I will update Wen I know more , thankyou for asking appreciated 🤗

It sounds like you're navigating a complex situation with your celiac disease, and it’s understandable to feel confused by the GI world! While celiac disease typically affects the duodenum and proximal small intestine, it’s possible for inflammation to extend to the ileum, especially in cases of more severe or longstanding damage. Since your tTG-IgA remains elevated despite a strict gluten-free diet, this could indicate ongoing healing or subtle gluten exposure. The ileal inflammation might still be related to celiac, though it’s good your doctor is ruling out other conditions like Crohn’s, given the nonspecific biopsy findings. Some people with celiac do report ileal involvement, particularly if...
