GFM and my son have something in common. He swells up like a ballon if he eats a mushroom but he hates almost all vegetables and is allergic to most fruit ( so its nothing against you dear Shroomie).

My throat gets really itchy and I break out in hives if I eat mushrooms. I have to take a benedryl and the next day my face will be puffy so I know I'm still reacting a little. Fortunately I have never had so much swelling from them I have to go to the ER. And the itching always alerts me before it gets to bad. Sorry Mushroom! You just make me itch, but as long as I don't touch you we can be friends. :lol:

I'm on it.. . .. . .... . . she seems to find the entire Canuck experience hilarious, so I'll have no trouble with her.. .. . ...those marijuanna boys are regular heroes around here.... :lol:

Fortunately I have never had so much swelling from them I have to go to the ER. And the itching always alerts me before it gets to bad. Sorry Mushroom! You just make me itch, but as long as I don't touch you we can be friends. :lol:

Well, J got the job! Its with an engineering firm. Not sure exactly what he does, something about running to the warehouse for parts. Sooooo glad he has something to do besides going to the pool and playing video games.

Awesome news K!!!!! It put a nice big smile on face.

I survived surgery but I hurt like !@#$. Back to bed for the ext few days. I'll know the results by the end of this week or early next week. Beware - BTW, my P.S. is longer than this part. Let's face it - I'm a blabber!

P.S. Tony went out to get more gluten free baking products and is making me a surprise after he gets back from Martial Arts. He found out that he's working the late shift every day so he's grumbling. We just tell him "Welcome to the real world!" I don't think it would bother him if he could go to Martial Arts the two weekdays he's been going. The Martial Arts School will still be there i the fall. I told him to stop grumping - that the three of us each have our own set of problems and that we need to be a united family. Evidently Clark had the same conversation with him over lunch (oops). He's an amazing boy but there is so much I would have done differently if I had a do-over (Yes dear Kareng, like the laundry and chores).

It's about 7 weeks of looking at orders and drawings and getting the parts from the warehouse. The company makes parts for forklifts. They wanted to give a kid from the engineering strand at the high schools a summer job. Pays $10.40 per hour so it's better than the frozen yogurt place.

That's a great summer job for high schooler! My first summer job when I was 16 paid $4.75 an hour. I thought that was good pay at the time, LOL! It kept gas in my car anyway and still was enough I could save some. Of course gas was under a dollar a gallon back then. :P

Yup. . .. . there he'd be ordering parts for smoothies and sundaes - - fruit chunks, syrup, nuts. . . . . ...this sounds more like something J will have a vested interest in, although as an 18 year-old I likely could have gotten very interested in surrounding meselph with chocolate syrup and chopped almonds. . .. ... . . . <_<

Good for him! A little spending money and some good insight into how the real engineering world works. More valuable than most people realize.

Optimistically went to home depot and bought garden stuff. We'll see if it stops raining long enough to go outside.

An unusual day today, in many ways.

It was nine years ago, to the day, that we rescued Tuppence. She was near death from serious injuries, and last week lost her battle with complications from those injuries.

Becky, one of the store cats, has been having some issues we thought were related to one of her teeth. Took her to see the vet this afternoon, and she does have a problem tooth, but not the one we thought. It will come out on Monday, but she is on pain meds until then.

With that and it being delivery day, every team member worked today. Jacquie and I opened, C. helped with the delivery, K. covered the afternoon while we went to the vet, and A. closed up for us after school.

A few weeks ago, we had a power outage at home in the evening. We went to Boston Pizza for food, and when we got home the power was back on.

Tonight, after a very hot day, we wanted to have somebody else heat up their kitchen. There was a band of severe thunderstorms moving through the area as we went out. When we got to Boston Pizza, there was a power outage there. We went back home at heated up our kitchen.

I think there may be a warp in the Phorce somewhere.

Maybe it is sick pet time. Cooper stepped on something and his pad got infected. They gave him some great pain meds. Apparently, he has a PB deficiency. He must have 4 antibiotics pills a day.

My furs and feathers are all doing well. Wee chickies seem to eat about twice what I expect them to. Always starving when I get home. Cats, of course, are near death from lack of canned food at every occasion. :P

Maybe it is sick pet time. Cooper stepped on something and his pad got infected. They gave him some great pain meds. Apparently, he has a PB deficiency. He must have 4 antibiotics pills a day.

Koopur has a peanut butter deficiency? Poor mutt, his mommie shud fix dat! Just don't give him any of those Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies. I gave one to Corey (sheltie) once years ago and his whole face swelled up on the right side the same day. Had to have a tooth extracted. He sure liked them tho.

Peter is just keeping the vets on their toes.

I put the PB on the pills so he will take them. Tried to put these "gelcaps" in a piece of cooked burger. He carefull spit the pill out. & licked it. We imagined he was thinking "Good burger. Just whatch out for the wierd hard bits".

It's one of those rare mornings in the NW that remind us why we live here. :) Went out and pulled a few weeds while fantasizing about just skipping work for the day. Now I'm back in scarfing brekky so's I can scurry out the door early enough for a walk before the bus.

My MaggieDog could find the medication in anything . . . She even learned to do the swallow-gulp trick to make me think she swallowed it (you know, while you are holding the snout closed and stroking the throat). Then she would walk away and spit it out. These were tiny thyroid pills for Pete Sawyer's sake!! I would find pills and not know if it was today's, yesterday's or last weeks.

The best bet was to take half a ritz cracker, cover with a gob of peanut butter and put the pill in the PB. Then stick the whole thing to the roof of her mouth.

Studies have linked potassium bromide to kidney, thyroid, and gastrointestinal cancers. A ban on it in goes into effect in California in 2027. I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor. Sourdough...

      same! how amazing you have a friend who has celiac disease. i find myself wishing i had someone to talk about it with other than my partner (who has been so supportive regardless)

      need help understanding testing result for Naked Nutrition Creatine please

      They don’t give a sample size (serving size is different from sample size) so it is hard to tell just what the result means. However, the way the result is presented does look like it is below the limit of what their test can measure, so that is good.

      Excess iodine supplements can cause significant health issues, primarily disrupting thyroid function. My daughter has issues with even small amounts of dietary iodine. While iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, consistently consuming amounts far above the tolerable upper limit (1,100 mcg/day for adults) from high-dose supplements can trigger both hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, worsen autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's, and lead to goiter. Other side effects include gastrointestinal distress. The risk is highest for individuals with pre-existing thyroid conditions, and while dietary iodine rarely reaches toxic levels, unsupervised high-dose supplementation is dangerous and should only be undertaken with medical guidance to avoid serious complications. It's best to check with your doctor before supplementing iodine.

I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor.  Sourdough natural fermentation conditions the dough without chemicals. Iodine was used in the US as a dough modifier until the 1970s. Since then iodine intake in the US dropped 50%.  Iodine is essential for thyroid hormones.  Thyroid hormone use for hypothyroidism has doubled in the United States from 1997 to 2016.   Clinical Thyroidology® for the Public In the UK, incidently, prescriptions for the thyroid hormone levothyroxine have increased by more than 12 million in a decade.  The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's official journal Standard thyroid tests will not show insufficient iodine intake.  Iodine 24 Hour Urine Test measures iodine excretion over a full day to evaluate iodine status and thyroid health. 75 year old male.  I tried adding seaweed into my diet and did get improvement in healing, muscle tone, skin; but in was not enough and I could not sustain it in my diet at the level intake I needed.  So I supplement 600 mcg Liquid Iodine (RDA 150 to 1000 mcg) per day.  It has turbocharged my recovery from 63 years of undiagnosed celiac disease.  Improvement in healing a non-healing sebaceous cyst. brain fog, vision, hair, skin, nails. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis celiac disease experience exacerbation of the rash with iodine. The Wolff-Chaikoff Effect Crying Wolf?
