Enterolab-how Long Did It Take?

how long did it take to get your results back? or for the whole process? i read up to three weeks? i want to do the complete test without gene testing- I'll have the biopsy next week. my primary dr doesn't doubt that its celiac and only referred me to the GI to get the biopsy for an official diagnoses but the GI says its likely NOT Celiac than Celiac. THe primary Dr said that IGG was high and IGA was 4, four+ is positive- so borderline. But Primary Dr, says that symtpoms + positive on blood were enough for him to conclude celiac and for me to give the diet 6mo to year, retest and see the improvment, the GI thinks that "jumping to conclusions" based on unreliable blood test, and that the diet will allow me to eat next to nothing! I had pancreatitis 18 mos ago and ate rice and veggies for 6 months and felt TERRIFIC! it was only since going back to junk eating and things other than plain rice and veggies that i am getting more and more sick and fatigued...i feel like a zombie most days..i'm am nearly positive that its celiac or at minimum gluten sensitivity...

the GI dr said that the IGG was the only one that was abnormal and it could mean nothing. but the Primary says sure that could be- but IGG high plus my symptoms means "SOMETHING"

So i am doing the biopsy next week and also would like the enterolab test just incase my naysayer GI interprets minimal villi damage- Negative- i have a back-up plan. the Primary Dr warned me that some GI's will note the minimal damage to villi negative....

Argh!

sorry for the rant. how long does it take?....anxious to start fixing this! :)

thanks in advance!

Hi! I believe that from the time I sent the kit in to the time I got the results was about 2.5 weeks. It was almost a year ago though, but I know it wasn't longer than 3 weeks. I got the big package including, eggs, casein, gene testing etc.

It took just under 2 weeks for me. I got the gluten and gene test..only took 3 days for the package to arrive. I wasn't expecting it for another week, then one night I checked my e-mail before bed, and there it was! It was a shock, even though I knew what the results were...

Good luck...

Mine also took about two to two and a half weeks. I got the 'best value' test done including genes and the casein test was done for free.

I just sent my Enterolab 'stuff' yesterday. So I am hopeful that I see something within 3 weeks. My GI pooh poohed me on Celiac as well and the biopsy was normal, but I had gene testing via Kimball Labs last February and I have the Celiac gene. I also feel tons better after going gluten-free. I am going to Enterolab to corroborate allergy testing I did via OHS (17 1/2 weeks of waiting and a complete pain to deal with) and to also get my husband tested. I did not get tested by Kimball for all of the gluten sensitivity genes, so I want to check those just in case I need to tell my family more *good* news. I also want to know if I am still eating hidden gluten. I had a major barf session the other night so I am worried about that.

Oh, and there is plenty of stuff to eat that is gluten-free. You just have to educate yourself and look for it. It was a bit difficult at first, but now I have plenty to eat. The real tricky part is on travel, the coffee hutches certainly don't carry gluten-free stuff, so I always have plenty of snack backup. I can eat peanuts, so at the airports I buy a bag of the carmelized peanuts at the newstand-store for my travel treat. The bag lasts me both to and from my destination. I wind up eating a plain hamburger patty and if I am lucky, french fries, when we stop at a diner while away. Almost everything else is suspicious.

But, when all is said and done, it doesn't matter what I cannot eat when I compare how I feel today to how I felt a year ago. It is worth it.

if you have already learned that Gluten is the cause of your symptoms, of course there is no need to add it back into your diet— your decision could save you a lot of needless suffering. One thing to consider is that if you do have celiac disease, your first- degree relatives may also need to get screened for it, because, like diabetes the disease is genetic, although many of its triggers seem to be environmental factors. You may want to consider getting a genetic test for celiac disease, so you can at least warn your relatives if it turns out that you do carry a celiac gene.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to do a gluten challenge (4 slices of bread a day for 3 months) and then do a full gluten panel of all the tests that can be done, just to rule it in or out for sure. I think otherwise psychologically it will keep bothering me

Thanks Scott. Those articles are really interesting. I’m cutting out gluten for 6 weeks but honestly I’m not sure I even want to reintroduce it! I ate at a restaurant for the first time on Wednesday and then Thursday was really uncomfortable and had a few trips to the loo.. wonder if there was some cross contamination 🤷‍♀️ if that’s how my body reacts after not eating it for 3 weeks I’m not sure it’s worth reintroducing it and re testing for celiac! It might have been a coincidence I realise that I’m not going to feel better all of a sudden and my gut is probably still trying to heal. Thanks for your supportive message!

Reference range 0.00 to 10.00 means that within that range is normal, so not celiac. There are other antibodies that can be present in celiac disease and they don’t all have to be positive to have celiac.  I’m sure someone else will post a link to an article describing them! Plus, if you are IgA deficient the celiac IgA tests won’t be accurate.

Great to have another UK person on the forum!   Re: blood tests, it sounds as if you are being well monitored but if you have any further concerns about blood tests or anything else, do not hesitate to start a new thread. Cristiana
