Funny Scent In Nose

I'm not sure where this belongs, but on occassions, but not often I seem to get this funny scent in my nose. It is not nasty or anything, but I just want to know what might cause it.

I don't think it would be gluten, but am wondering whether it could be from soy, as I am eating a bit more of that in small amounts.

Has anybody got any ideas?

Cathy

I doubt this will be helpful, but before I found out gluten was my problem, I was having daily migraines and there were a couple of times I had a scent hallucination before a migraine came on. One morning I was CONVINCED there was stewed beef in the kitchen, but no, the only food out was cereal.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about 'Olfactory Aura'. I think the smell thing can happen prior to Migraines, Epileptic Seizures it more commonly it can be from sinus or nasal infections.

This may be far off from what you are experiencing, but my homeopathic doc said this could sometimes be caused by having too many heavy metals in your body. May be something to think about if you eat a lot of fish, especially canned tuna, or are exposed through drinking water, etc. I had the same trouble and have been taking selenium daily for the past year and no longer have this problem.

silly question, but what is smell? I have constant smell of smoke (the only word I can use to describe it). Keep in mind it's my husband who has celiac and not me; and I don't have sinus problems; had smoke smell on and off for a few years now and do not have seizure problems..... I too wondered where this was coming from.

Is it like a musty/moldy smell? I had that when I was on prednisone and discovered that I had a huge yeast overgrowth.

I've been getting this lately too. I don't know about you guys, but I smell something fruity... like one of those blueberry scented markers. I have migraines and have had seizures in the past but haven't been getting them along with the scent...

Hello, just popped in my head to ask this question about medications and celiac? I have always had refurse reaction to meds since I can remember  of what little meds my body is able to tolerate. I was taking gabapentin 300mg for a week,  in past I believe 150? Any ways it amps me up not able to sleep, though very tired. However I did notice it helped with my bloating sibo belly.I hate that my body is that sensitive and medical doesn't seem to take seriously. Im STILL healing with my skin, eye, and now ms or meningioma ( will know in April  which)and dealing with this limbo nightmare. I did write my name, address ect on the reclamation but im not tech savvy and not sure if went through properly. I called my city representative in Stanislaus County and asked if theres a physical paper i can sign for proclamation for celiac and she had no clue about what I was saying, so I just said I'll go back on website.

I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten-free ever since along with other lovely food allergies. Prayers

trents:  Why some can tolerate european bread but not american bread.     I take 600 mcg a day.  Right in the middle of the safe range.   Groups at Risk of Iodine Inadequacy Though though the NIH does not specifically list Celiac Disease in this group, they state: "Iodide is quickly and almost completely absorbed in the stomach and duodenum. Iodate is reduced in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed as iodide [2,5]."  That would certainly include malabsorption of Iodine due to Celiac Disease with resultant Iodine Deficiency. Vegans and people who eat few or no dairy products, seafood, and eggs People who do not use iodized salt Pregnant women People with marginal iodine status who eat foods containing goitrogens Deficiencies of iron and/or vitamin A may also be goitrogenic [51] https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iodine-HealthProfessiona   1
