HI, MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN gluten-free NOW 2 MONTHS AND ON MONDAY AFTERNOON W/O ANY ADVANCE WARNING SHE THREW UP (SORRY)! TWO HOURS LATER SHE DID IT AGAIN. SHE'S ALSO DIABETIC ON A PUMP AND HER SUGAR LEVELS PLUMMETED! SHE WAS PRESCRIBED ZOFRAN WHICH STOPPED HER FROM THROWING UP AGAIN AND WAS PUT ON LIQUIDS. SHE'S FINALLY OK NOW, BUT I WAS WONDERING IF HAVING celiac disease MAKES YOU MORE SENSITIVE TO STOMACH VIRUS' ETC. SHE'S VERY HEALTHY OTHERWISE. THANKS FOR ANY RESPONSE. I LOVE THIS BOARD.

LEE

I don't know.......it might depend on the person, but I'm not. Besides my celiac disease symptoms, I can't remember the last time I had the flu or some other stomach problem. Last year around Christmas, everyone in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades at my school was getting sick from some flu-like thing. My class of 20 depleted to 4........I was one of the four. So, it might affect some people, but I seem to be okay (knock on wood).

I don't think having celiac disease makes people more sensitive to viruses. Some kids where I live have had a stomach bug recently and none of them have celiac disease.

Hi,

Thanks for your information everyone, it's good to hear that celiac disease doesn't make you any more prone to getting flu bugs, etc. She's much better now.

My daughter began having intussusceptions in her small intestine (like an old fashioned telescope closing in on itself), and that was what made her vomit. The damage done to her intestine bc of having celiac and not knowing made her intestine weak and thin. She had to have 3 emergency operations to fix the intussusception. Does you daughter ever cringe over in pain, or get on all fours and rock back and forth and cry?

I don't think celiac disease makes you more susceptible, but it is really hard to tell contamination from a virus. We thought our daughter had a stomach bug in March, but after having off and on vomitting with diarrhea for over a week, we realized it was contaimination. One of the moms in our support group helped me narrow it down to the vanilla extract in the Stoneyfield yogurt, it is made with grain alcohol.

Good luck, I know it is very frustrating.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
