I'm New To The Board

Over Christmas we had a family gathering and my sister-in-law failed to inform me that she put sausage in the sloppy joy mix. She used the Manwich sauce also, but I believe that is gluten free. Anyway, three days down the line I feel just plain yucky emotionally. I have no motivation, want to stay home and pout, my ability to think things through is just unreasonable. I make mountains out of molehills. My anxieties go way to the extreme side. When I am gluten free my life is pretty normal with just normal every day goods and bads.

I've always understood that glutened symptoms revolve around digestion and bowel problems. I have some of that, but the emotional problems are so intense that some days I wonder if I am going to make it.

Hold out Daisy. Gluten causes your immune system to do crazy things to your body chemistry and brain - emotional distress is definitely a symptom. Just have patience and strength knowing it WILL pass (even though it doesn't feel like it ever will). Good luck!

Hi Daisy, and welcome to the board. Many people have severe emotional problems when glutened. I am sorry you are feeling an emotional wreck right now. Hopefully it will pass very soon, and you'll be back to your old self. Hang in there in the meantime!

Daisy,

It is perfectly normal to have emotional symptoms when you get glutened. You may feel depressed, irritable, or even think irrationally. It will get better once your immune system calms down. Gluten reactions can last from 1-10 days. I usually feel normal after 4 days. I hope you feel better soon.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
