Jekyll Island Georgia

My dad and I are traveling to Jekyll Island next week, I'm going for convention, he's going just to go. The convention is providing several meals for us and I indicated gluten free, but this is my first time traveling since going gluten free and am worried. Also we're on an island in a hotel and I'm wondering about the resturant options for the rest of the meals.

Can you contact the hotel directly about the meal situation? I would try to do that first, and plan to bring some snacks that could replace a meal if you need to. Also, you may need to contact whoever is in charge of the food at the conference as soon as you get there to make sure they will be providing you with gluten free meals, that way you will have a better idea whether they know what gluten free means. Don't wait until meal time and then try to get them to bring you something gluten free while they are busy serving everyone else.

Here is a link to the other restaurants on the island: Open Original Shared Link

You could probably contact them ahead of time and discuss if you would be able to eat there safely. Mostly it is steak & seafood places, which means you will probably find quite a few items on the menu that would be gluten free, but you need to make sure there won't be much contamination from the kitchen.

The whole concept of "Island" scares me! It makes me feel trapped, like I can't leave and go find gluten-free food. I want to go to Hawaii next year and that even makes me nervous. I mean, I can't take my kitchen with me to Hawaii, and what if we can't fine gluten-free meals! I've done some research on other people's experiences and know that realistically we will be able to eat plenty, but subconsciously I cringe at the whole idea of being that far away from home. So far we have only traveled in California and Nevada (Lake Tahoe/Carson City area), close enough to get home in 8 hours or less!

One of the dinners is buffet, seafood. (yuck) After living in New Orleans and eating thier seafood everything is bland in comparison. But as long as I stick to baked or broiled I should be safe. Lunch they said as long as I tell our server everything will be prepared gluten free and seperate.

It's the other meals that worry me becuase this will be conference room meals (done by hotel catering_ while the others I'm on my own.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
