Did My Dairy/fat Intolerance Return Or Am I Just Still Glutened?

Hi everyone,

I was dairy and fat intolerant until November, when I had absolutely no problems eating either again. I got glutened severely, practically every day, during the week surrounding Christmas. It typically takes about a week to get over a glutening and then I feel fine, but I'm still feeling pretty bad. I felt much better yesterday and now I feel badly again.

In the past week and a half, I've been eating Target's Market Pantry brand mozzarella and cottage cheese. The ingredients looked fine, but I (for whatever reason) never called to check. I didn't have cottage cheese or mozzarella on Tuesday or Wednesday. I felt much, much better Wednesday. I felt fine today until I ate both. Do you think I should stop eating all dairy and high fat items for a while in case my intolerances have returned (the thought of them returning makes me want to cry), or should I just abstain from the Target stuff?

My symptoms - severe, severe bloating and abdominal pain - aren't impossible to live with but I don't want to put up with them any longer than I have to.

:(

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, I am sorry to say this, but it isn't like you don't really know already anyway. It appears that your dairy intolerance is back in full force. Eating cheese can't be worth getting sick all over again, when you had been feeling so well.

Plus, with all the many glutenings you had over the holidays, I expect that it will take a little longer to heal than the usual, as you must surely have more damage than you would get from just one little glutening.

Thanks Ursula. I feel back to normal today, so I'm guessing that it was a combination of not being quite healed and maybe a little bit of glutening from the Target brand stuff. I'm not really sure that stuff is gluten free and if it is, there may be some cc issues. I'm going to buy some cheese that I know is gluten-free and eat it this weekend. If I do fine, I'll probably assume that a) my dairy intolerance being back was related to the glutening, b ) the target cheese really does have gluten/cc issues or c) I was still healing from the glutening.

Thanks for your input!

I am glad you're feeling better. Good luck with the cheese!

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
