:( Aloha,

I was diagnosed last week celiac. I have been gluten free for about 4 days now

I was also diagnosed before with fibromyalgia.

I feel terrible like I have the flu and I hurt all over does this sound like others w/

celiac? and how long till I feel better if it is the celiac? Suzanne

Well that depends-I guess for some felling better starts as soon as they stop eating Gluten. For others it may take 3 months,6 months,a year, maybe longer.

"I feel terrible like I have the flu and I hurt all over does this sound like others w/

celiac? "

Kinda sounds like me :)

I've been gluten-free for 8-9 months with a few accidents and my stomach feels much better.I use to feel like I HAD the Flu but now I just feel like I'm Getting the Flu.I can function and do my normal thing in life i just feel achy and run down most of the time. I have other problems that may be making this worse for me but, who knows. Comparing where I was a year ago I'm at least 50% better off. I was very sick.

So being gluten-free is worth it but it may take sometime to get the full benefits.

Hope you feel better soon. :D

Suzanne,

I went gluten free about 3 months ago now. And finally I thinnk my stomach is normal. but at first it still killed even though gluten free.

I was dxed with fibromyalgia, 7 yrs ago. It got horrible, I needed a wheel chair, couldnt work, couldnt do mostly anything but lay there. I was also on 11 different meds a day.

Someone on the web told me to try cutting out all meat..... Finally, when I got so bad, I gave it a try. Within two weeks of, I became vegan, I was off all medicines, now i walk, workout, can hold a job, etc...... I got my life back.

So Im saying if you have fibro give giving up meat a try.....but you have to read everything, which is easy really if your already gluten-free.

Im convinced it is something they inject in animals that really made me sick, and they call it fibromyalgia.

My mother in law has fibromyalgia and the hurt all over part is probably that. The flu symptoms are probably more celiac disease than Fibromyalgia, but could be both. It'll take a few weeks to get used to the feelings associated with celiac disease, but after a few months of the diet you shouldn't feel flu like anymore, but again with the Fibromyalgia there's gonna be pain and you'll probably still feel lethargic pretty often. Did the same MD diagnose you w/ both conditions? If so he/she can probably give you a gluten free pain med to help w/ the fibro pain. Best of luck, I hope you feel better soon.

This diet can help with fibro but so can thyroid meds. Go to about.com and type in thyroid and read everything there. thyroid@yahoogroups.com is a good support group. Dr. John Lowe wrote a book about the connection between fibro/chronic fatigue and thyroid. Hope you feel better soon. ;) my muscles are doing better but not 100%. I'm taking several things but MSM in crystal form has helped. I also did guaifenesin at one point for a year and that helped me to start walking again. based on Dr. Paul R. St. Amands "What your doctor may not tell you about fibromyalgai". In fact I saw him in person. Take care

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
