Blood In Stool

My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed in 2004. We've had everything pretty much under control, no other health issues.

She informed me that she has been seeing blood in every stool since Christmas. She must have passed a lot of blood to finally tell me this has been going on. (She thought it was normal. Just like the stomachaches before being diagnosed.)

We went to the pediatrician yesterday, he is running some blood tests, make sure she's not anemic. Of course he has ordered labs to be done on her stool. (Haven't been able to get any specimen since she tends to go at school and not at home. Hopefully soon!)

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm trying not to panic over possible outcomes!!

Hi There -

I had this problem a couple years ago - I was very freaked out too! Turned out just to be an anal fissure (small tear - saw a lot of blood - and pain! has she mentioned any pain when going to the bathroom?) Anyway, just had to take stool softeners for a few weeks to make things pass easier and it went away.

Hopefully it is something simple like that . . . poor girl! Hopefully your doc can get you some answers soon.

There are two important questions to answer:

Is the blood *in* the stool, or *on* the stool?

Is the blood bright red (fresh) or dark red/black (old)?

Regardless of the answers, you did the right thing taking her in right away. I have had (and do periodically) issues of fresh blood on the stool which are caused by hemmroids. Fairly manageable, and certainly not a major *concern*, in my case. The cause can be more serious of course, and I hope the results come back favorably!

ive had blood in stool and dyiarry lower stomach pains im going for a colonscopy this afternoon hopfully this find something

Is is bright red, or dark red? Has she been eating a lot of red food?? And like someone here siad, theres a difference between on and in. If she's ben eating red food, like beets/tomatoes/etc that could be the cause. Or it could be a litle 'tear' which is harmless.

Whats worrysome (for me at least) is BLACK stools...i get them periodically, but more frequently (as everyone here knows!) and they usually follows with a trip for me to the ER...but for me they've been suspecting crohn's or colitis for the last year.

Anyways, take her to see a doc, just to make sure everything is ok. Then let us all know how it turns out

      Shingles - Could It Be Related to Gluten/ Celiac

      You might try Heallix. It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball. It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again, not in your eyes or ears. Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also, I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out...

      Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease.       Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

      Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress ...

      I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
