My son has not improved enough on the gluten-free diet and his ttg levels are extremely high after 9 months. His Dr. did his biopsy again and took other samples. Today they told me he has a bacteria in his duodenum " we are trying to make heads or tales of this, we will call you when we know more" Has anyone else had this, if so what is it and how is it treated, is it related to Celiac disease?

You said, 'again' regarding the biopsy - did he have one before? If so, what did it say? I know that people question Dr. Fine (enterolab) but I just watched a video of one of the support groups he spoke at, in my area, and he spoke of bacteria in the duodendum (sp) - it was either a beleived cause of celiac disease or vise versa - but definately, they were related. Let us know.

There was a study a little while back about people not improving on a truely gluten-free diet (so no accidental exposure) often having SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). Perhaps that is the issue here?

It does sound like possible bacterial overgrowth, which anybody can have. Some people take a probiotic like Culturelle and sometimes doctors prescribe antibiotics. It's simple to take care of.

kirst4588, you ask if he had a biobsy before. We went through the motions but due to an asthma attack under anesthetia, they had to abort the procedure before getting any samples.

      Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

      What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
