Overeating

I have a tendency to overeat emotionally. On days my stomach feels good, I eat normally, but sometimes, on days when I already feel bloated and miserable, I'm like, screw it, this diet isn't helping...I don't care anymore..I already feel like crap... and I overeat...It's all gluten free healthy food. usually, bananas, apples, and sometimes nuts or even carrots.(I'm on the SCD) I know that sounds crazy...who would want to overeat that stuff. But I guess that's how I try to handle things emotionally. Or sometimes, If I know I am going out later, I'm scared to eat anything at all. Did anyone else ever experience something like this or am I just crazy? Any recomendations on how to help myself find a balance? any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I understand where you are coming from. Most people loose weight before the go gluten-free, I gained ( as If I need more weight). I was once told that for some their brain can either misinterpet stomach pain for hunger, or we misinterpet the brains signals as hunger. This usually happens in people with eating issues. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I seem to do that. My husband was dreading the gluten-free diet, because if I can't eat, I emotionaly shop :P . Thank goodness for ice cream.

Back to serious stuff, if you gluten free and are still having bloting, could you have other food issues too?

Hm, well, I have a tendency to overeat emotionally, too. In fact, I don't know if it's just OCD in general, or if it's related to never getting enough from the food I ate when I was young, but I'm capable of overeating anything. Mostly, though it's sugary stuff that is gluten-free.

(sidenote: I just learned M&M's are gluten-free! Why on earth would anyone post such irresponsible information. Now I'm doomed! :-)

However, I haven't gotten any bloating since going gluten-free, except for times when I was glutened accidentally. Is there any chance that you still have other members of the family contaminating kitchen implements? Still using the wrong mustard, etc? It took me two years to really get gluten free.

Hope this helps.

I do the exact same thing, especially on weekends, on recent weekends with the winter weather here, John and I hibernate in the house and I eat all gluten free stuff, but junky food. I need to change my habits, so during the week I have been focusing on trying to improve things but come friday I fall off the wagon.

thanks for the answers! I am gluten free for sure as far as the food I eat. I basically only eat fish, chicken, veggies, and fruits. I haven't noticed much improvement in the bloating in the two months I've been on the diet. I do not know if I am just taking time to heal or If i am constantly getting cc from my job. I am a waitress at a seafood restaurant and am constantly in contact with gluten. There is flour all over the place and In the air. I never eat anything but this is the only thing that I think could be the problem. I think all my cosmetics and shampoos are gluten-free...anyone know if maxfactor whipped cream foundation is? The company never wrote me back..but I don't see anything in the ingredients that looks like gluten. I'm so frusturated with this whole thing...I've eliminated so many foods and still feel bloated all the time...The C alternating with D is gone and for the first tiem in my life I have normal looking BM's but besides that I still feel like crap...sorry for rambling!

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
