Dh

I am beginning to believe after the 2 biopsies that I had, which one was eczema and the other was spongiotic dermatitis, I really think it may be DH. I also was tested for a yeast infection at this time and it came back negative. I have had many itchy outbreaks over the years, that I had thought were yeast infections. I'm beginning to think they werent'. One I landed in the hospital covered with an extremely itcy rash from head to foot. They that I had a yeast infection through my whole body, but I didn't. They just said it was an allergic reaction but didn't know to what. Over the years I've been tested for herpes, told I had poison ivy, impetego, eczema. I don't have the cottage cheese discharge. Sometimes I feel like blisters are popping inside of me. I went to a dermatologist, 3 weeks ago and she gave me Protopic, an ointment for eczema. I put that on and had unbelievable itching. I have been eating gluten free since the beginning of the year. Things got better for a couple of months. I think I am some how getting glutened from my son. He works at a pizza place and comes home covered with flour. Now that I think about it about a month ago I drove his car, which I could smell the flour in. I'm sure I breathed it in and ever since then I can't seem to get back on track. I make him wash his own work clothes. I think I'm on the right track, but now need to look into other foods.

do you think that youre sons working in a pizza shop is the culprit?

i thought i was kinda safe working in a restaurant as long as i wasnt digesting the food, and handling it is okay also.

lmk if im wrong on that....

i work in a pizza shop part time also, so this is why i ask.

I'm not sure if my son working at a pizza shop could gluten me or not. I can smell the flour on him when he walks in the door. My little sister is a celiac and used to work in a bagel shop. I would think as a celiac you would have to be really careful. I would think you could easily ingest gluten working in a place like that.

Hmm, this is really interesting! I work at a pizza place, (child's birthday place) and I serve pizza and cake all day. Of course I wear gloves to serve (for health code reason) and I don't eat the food...I think there is a difference between an allergy, and a intolerance. Like people with peanut allergies can't inhale, touch it etc...While people with the intolerance, like my father, just get very sick if they eat it, or break out in hives (but their throats don't close up or anything).

I wonder if it is the same for gluten/wheat. One friend of mine works at a preschool, one of her kids has an allergy to wheat. They have a pasta day where all the kids make pasta, this child cannot come to school for a week because he cannot risk any wheat being in the air, and the entire classroom must be cleaned very well! Yet, I can handle working around pizza and cake...Hmmm, makes me wonder, I wear a costume at work, so I change before I go home so I'm not bringing the wheat particles into my car or my house, but I never even thought that could be a bad thing.

I would ask your doctor what he think, and maybe ask your son to change at work, and wash his clothes right away, or keep them in a plastic bag until he's ready to do a load. Try it for two weeks and see what happens.

I'll really interested to see what would happen.

one thing that i have done in the past week is give up table salt, this and also sunkist almonds in the big platic jar. ive noticed the dh has reduced some, im keeping w/ indefinitely. i might take this weekend off and see it has an effect on me over the next week and a half of being out of a gluten free work environment (the pizza shop).

look for a reply next sunday or after.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!
