Here are a few interesting facts in Discovery Magazine, March issue :o

The Food and Drug Administration declares meat and milk from Cloned Animals SafeTo Eat and says they can be sold with no special labeling.

Japanese chemists create VANILLIN FROM COW DUNG. Vanillin is the main component of vanila-bean extract in artifical flavorings.

Get your sunshine: Harvard epidemiologists find that Caucasians with a high blood levels of vitamin D have a 62 PERCENT LOWER RISK OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.

Who would have thought? COW DUNG, ghesh. :(

Hey mg,

The good 'ol artificial kind don't sound so good either.

" .... The demand for vanilla flavoring has long exceeded the supply of vanilla beans. As of 2001, the annual demand for vanillin was 12,000 tons, but only 1800 tons of natural vanillin were produced. The remainder was produced by chemical synthesis. Vanillin was first synthesized from eugenol (found in oil of clove) in 1874

Uggg....the things that we eat and don't even know it.

Celiac brings on a new awareness, doesn't?

I don't want to eat a cloned cow or whatever, either. <_<

Yuck ... maybe it's a good thing that we don't know some things, or we will soon all starve. That really is gross!

Exactly--sometimes that which we do not know, can't hurt us! <_<

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
