i was being treated for acid reflex for 9ths then it was discovered that i have Celiac disease....now eating gluten-free products i am finding that when i eat anything with a acid level my reflex gets worse....the answer here is stop eating them which i have done....why even when i eat the smallest amount does the acid built up so fast???....is it part of the healing process???...was the acid connected or another symptom of celiac???? :(

As I understand it, the acid isn't from the food itself, but from the stomach. The hydrochloric acid of the stomach is supposed to be very strong, and it is produced in response to food in need of digesting. I heard it is normally strong enough to dissolve the flesh off a human hand in three minutes! So it stands to reason that it would hurt to have such acid come up into a part of the esophagus not designed to handle it. Plus it doesn't make sense to me for someone to work against the digestive process by neutralizing the acid.

There is a recent thread on heartburn, and a number of posts about using apple cider vinegar to help/cure the condition. I'm sure a search for this type of vinegar will bring up that and other related threads.

try taking a ani-acid pill before you eat and if that helps you could have acid relfelx disease

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
