Just A Good Old Fashion Basic List

Although I've been researching this on and off for a couple years now, I'm still a newbie in the Celiac world. I would love to get just a basic, definative list of what's on the gluten-free "don't do it" food list. I keep coming across different information...some say yes to canola oil, some say no; some don't specify fruit vinegars, while some do; yes to feta, no to Roquefort...and now I'm reading that oats may be considered okay? It's a lot to take in and figure out. I'd like to just KNOW once and for all, if that's possible.

Any suggestions? (I mean, you know, constructive suggestions, other than, "Grow up and use the brain God gave you!") :D

I don't know where in WA you are, but there is a couple of different stores that carry exstensive lines of gluten-free food. Manna Mills is located in Mountlake Terrace and Lingonberries is located in Vancouver Wa. If you ever want to get doughnuts or rolls, those are the places to hit.

Also this Sat in Seattle is the gluten free food and beer festival.

There's a gluten-free Beer Festival?!?! That's perfect! I thought I'd never have another beer again. Although I don't imbibe often, it's nice to know the option is available.

I'll have to look up the festival and see what's brewing. ;)

Thanks!

Red Bridge beer made by Anheiser-Busch is gluten free and wonderful! It's also the cheapest of the gluten free beers AND relatively easy to find. Ask your local grocery store or beer distributor to start carrying it for you. It shouldn't be a problem getting it in since it's made by AB.

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
