Wholefoods Multi-vitamin

I recently purchased a multi-vitamin and am kind of weary about taking it. I've had problems taking vitamins in the past. The ingredients include barley grass and wheat grass. The woman at the health food store called the company and the company said that they were gluten-free. Do you think they are alright?

No, I don't. In theory, it is possible to get wheat grass and barley grass that is technically gluten-free. Theory doesn't always pan out into practice, however, and this is one of those instances that I simply won't risk.

I totally agree with Tarnalberry, I wouldn't risk it. If you have questions or concerns about any food or supplement, you'll only wonder after you've taken the vitamin, which will cause unnecessary stress. I wouldn't eat anything that I considered suspect, no matter how many assurances I have. Trust your judgement because you know more about celiac disease disease and glutens than most.

That is a risk I would not take. The chances of contamination of the grasses with seeds are very high.

I have a bottle of Whole Foods 365 brand adult multi vitamins, and there's no mention of wheat grass in it at all, is yours different? Mine also lists on the bottle that it is gluten free, wheat free, lactose free, etc. I didn't know whole foods made more than one type of adult multi.

My bad.. it's not Wholefoods.. it's Nature's Way.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
