Gas Or Critters?

Before going gluten free I had a lot of movement going on in my tummy, like being pregnant. The Dr said it was gas and it went away after going gluten free. The other night I felt movement, almost spasm like. I looked at my stomach and I could see it move in a spot, like a baby kicking. Please tell me that that could be gas, I do not want critters in there. They tested for parasites when I got tested for celiac last Sept. It was negative. Oh, and I'm not pregnant. And I haven't had a gluten reaction for weeks.

I had this and still do at times for the longest time i had convinced myself that I could be pregnat and I was late as well, which I am usually on time, so I would think ok Im pregnat and then I would start, I would get spasms and soon after I would pass loud gas, I had this for I think 5 yrs but maybe more but never realized something maybe wrong with me, gas pain never had anything to compare it to until I had my daughter the first time after my daughter was born my gas pain hurt so bad that I thought that I was in labor again, I thought wow this is too weird that I would be having labor type pains before I went poo, which come to think about it I have always for as long as I can remember felt like that. But the stomach pains yes, heartburn didn't know what it was until I had my daughter soon after they went away and then came back with a vengence. I thought that it was just something like onions that I was eating too much of and spices just love to use spices before I ate, so I stopped using onions when I cooked, but all my symptoms kept coming on and the longer I went on about my buisness to more it would happen, then one day while working I was in a patients room I got a sudden pain and the urge to go and go I need to go drop everything and find a rest room quick I even thought I could use the patients bathroom that is how desprate i was, I was lucky enough that I made it in time even though I had to sprint down the hall, sprinting in a hostpital people think that something is wrong luckliy for me I didn't run into anyone asking what is wrong. Soon after that my sister who also has the same as me but more allergies asked me if i had all the symptoms listed on this site and I said yes to all started the diet without going to the GI to get tested but unfortuneatley for me that everything was In my opioion false negative, so now my last resort is ordering my Enterolab test and I hope to God that is positive, only for my sake, I'll send a copy to my GI just to let him see, even though I know that he may not accept it. Hope that I didn't rant too long, I tend to do that

OMG! I was going to write about this, too! This actually feels like a baby kicking, not at all like the movement I used to have when I was sick. I thought I was just weird. This started after I had given up gluten and had begun to feel better. I wonder what causes it. I was speculating that it might be the villi (?) starting to stand back up.

I can also feel my heartbeating after eating gluten in the middle of my stomach which is also why I continually thought that I could be preganate, took me a long time to realize what in the heck was going on.

Man the more I read about everybodies symptoms the more I really think that I do have maybe Celiacs with all my test being a false negative

I've had that happen too Jo, I always got kinda freaked out by it. There's a lot of explanations people give, the first usually being gas. It can't hurt to try a cleansing program, like Dr Colonix or something, it's probably a good idea for people to do once in a while anyway. You never know, you're not likely to have critters that big unless you've been overseas, but it could happen. Freaky, isn't it? I just tell myself that there are much smaller critters in there that I want to keep, so who cares about the size of the ones I want to get rid of?

Hi,

I think they are pretty common. Sounds like you are having spasms in your intestine. A lot of times it accompanies gas pains or maybe even a little bit of an obstruction that clears itself, it may even be a little irritation in your intestines. I have had such horrible spasms that I have doubled over (labor type pain). I had one in the doctors office once and she said it was a spasm in the intestine. My husband has diverticulitis and if one of his little diverticuli get seeds in it or something else he shouldn't be eating, he'll get a horrible spasm. Hope this helps a little. I agree that the likelihood of some parasite causing it is pretty unlikely, unless you have lived in some really underdeveloped country and drank their water.

I've always described it as wolverines fighting their way out of me!!

Hi! Are you folks possibly talking about what I refer to as my "pinball machine?" For me it was mainly movement, not pain but oh boy, how much movement there was! The movement alone used to wake me up. And then in the morning it would happen before my, ah, morning "constitutional and if I didn't

RUN to the powder room, I was in big trouble. I think I could follow stuff as it went down my whole small intestines, slowing down as it rounded corners......pretty funny if I wasn't in pain and IF I made it to the potty in time. Now that I've been gluten-free for almost a year, I don't have the movement very often, although yeast can seem to bring it on......if I eat stuff with yeast in it. Any help?

I used to have spasms all the time couldnt figure it out, I don't think that I had them when I was 100o/o gluten free but since I have been eating regular food for the past few months with eating gluten-free here and there they have returned. Gluten free food is just so expensive i cant always get food for myself to eat the food that I do have I am eating sparingly until payday which tomarrow so I am going shopping because I feeling a little bad right now. I had to take a tagamet for my heatburn so I can get through the night, it usually helps, but it is taking a little longer to kick in, I guess it is a reminder not to run out of my food.

Thanks I feel better. I haven't been out of the country in 25 yrs and that was just Canada, so I think I'm fine. It doesn't hurt, and looked just like it did when my girls would kick. I had a momentary panic attack, after all I only have one tube, and it's tied, what are the chances. Although, with Celiac disease I could understand how an overweight woman could be nine months pregnant and not know. So many of the symptoms are the same.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!
