My 4 year old son has been gluten free for 2 and a half years..Positive DQ2, negative antibodies. He had never had a formed stool from the day he was born, always diarrhea. He has had dramatic improvements since being gluten-free.

My question is now we have Immunolabs antibody testing/Autism panel drawn and the testing comes back negative for wheat and barley, positive for oats!

My husband and I are now completely confused. Is it that he has been off of these grains for so long that he is no longer producing antibodies.?..I would never return him to gluten..his dark circles have disappeared, his gut has healed.

I don't understand these results and his DAN Dr. didn't add any explanation. He also tested reactive to citrus, cheese, and RICE!!! Now what do I feed him? Rice flour has been the alternative,I guess now I have to look for other grains, potatoe flour, tapioca etc.

Has anyone ever heard of a child reacting to rice? Could this be a false positive!! Just when I thought I had my little man's diet down, we are hit with this!!!HELP!!! Thanks for any input...

If he is on a gluten free diet wouldn't that explain the negative for wheat? I believe you need to be eating wheat to produce antibodies against it. There are other people on this forum that are intolerant to other grains as well so they can help you with the rice. I am surprised about the oats because if he is gluten free he wouldn't be eating any to cause the antibodies.

My 3 1/2 yr old daughter when she was first diagnosed she had neg for wheat also but still has celiac.

It is definetely possible.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Hi Andie

My son was diagnosed with Celiac in April 2007, just days after his 4th birthday. Unfortunately, he had been exhibiting strong symptoms since birth (bloated tummy, projectile vomitting, "foamy" poops, and a "pain" cry all the time) but it took me 7 months of pleading with my Dr. to get a referral to a GI specialist. It was obvious to the specialist that my baby was exhibiting classic acid reflux symptoms and he felt there was an allergy problem too. Sure enough, he tested allergic to EVERYTHING food related except for organic oats. And yes, that included a strong reaction to RICE. To make a very long story short, he eventually outgrew all his food allergies (by his 4th birthday) which was when the specialist clued in that there was something else wrong with this kid!

If your child is no longer able to have rice flour, try nut flour. There is a book out called Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall and there are some excellent recipes using bean and nut flour.

Hope this helps!

Other grains - teff, sorghum, millet, quinoa all much heathier than rice anyway.

DQ2s can have a separate reaction to the oat protein, presents like gkuten symptoms. DQ2 Celiac children should not consume oats of ant kind. There are pubmed abstracts on these studies.

And yes consumption of the food needs to have been taking place for the antibody to show up, the time from last bite to test varies by person. 54 days gluten-free my son still racted to IgG blood test. The stool test and other blood test would never give us a positive b/c he is IgA deficient.

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
