Just Need To Vent!

Ok, so I have been gluten-free for months. But lately I have been getting diarrhea but I don't know what from. I am certain it is not from gluten, but i don't know what is causing it. I know I should do an elimination diet, but I don't even know where to begin, and I can't imagine cutting out even more food from my diet. I am so scared it is corn or something, and I woulnd't even know how to begin to eliminate that from my diet because I use something from corn all the time. I am thinking about getting a referral to the GI dr, but I don't know what good he would do. What would you guys do??

Thanks, just had to vent!

I am kinda in your same boat. I have been diagnosed and gluten free for 5 weeks and am battling a lot of D. I just just tested positive for bacteria overgrowth, so hopefully that is part of the problem.

It broke my heart (I work in a cheese shop) but giving up dairy and soy have helped me. I would say the first couple days were the hardest, but once I noticed a shift it felt like less of a "deal."

Don't get me wrong... I cannot wait to eat yogurt, cheese and have milk in my coffee!

So being pretty new to this, I would say to talk to you GI and figure out if something else is going on in your guts and/or cut out dairy and/or soy. I also found that corn was bothering me (popcorn, corn tortillas) so I nixed the things that have a ton of corn.

I am sure a bunch more people will offer other ideas/suggestions.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

go grain free & processed food free then when you are okay see if you can add in some cooked rice & maybe cornmeal or corn tortillas. oh also dairy free

A friend of mine is in the bar trade most of his life and has never heard of lines being mixed for different type of beers and ciders. Better to stick with cans.

Thanks very much for confirming my suspicion @Scott Adams! That helps a lot because I'm really trying to track down and get rid of these sources of cross-contact and so I'm going to just rule out the draft ciders and hope that helps. Also @Rogol72 its nice to hear you haven't had a problem on that side of the pond - draft cider lines being used for cider only certainly sounds like the right way to do it, but I think that must not always be practiced over here!

I didn't ask a doctor about this actually. I did ask several doctors a long time ago and they told me gluten has nothing to do with hashimoto's. One of them told me to do a gluten challenge to test for celiac, but at the time I was in graduate school so couldn't afford to be even more ill than I was. If you have the symptoms, I really don't advise you to do a gluten challenge. It messed me up mentally and physically for months. At the same time, I benefitted from doing the challenge in the sense that it convinced me that all my symptoms were truly from gluten - even stuff like insomnia! So now I am terrified to eat gluten, whereas before I would have a little once in a while and not notice anything dramatic.

I am in a similar situation where I can't feasibly do a gluten challenge but have all the symptoms and I have 2 celiac genes. I'm curious if your doctor advised you to eat as if you had a diagnosis or if they were more dismissive about it.

Negative, although I had most of the symptoms of celiac disease. I now eat as if I had a diagnosis.
