Whole Foods Gluten-free List

Last week I picked up the most recently updated Gluten Free list form my local Whole Foods. I was dismayed to see Rice Dream brand rice milk on there. <_< I used to drink the Organic Original Enriched (quart size you buy from the shelves). I continued to drink in after my diagnoses, never thinking to check the label. After not getting much better I started checking labels more closely and found the drink to contain gluten from barley protein-clearly labeled on the container. I felt like an idiot for not checking sooner.

I emailed Whole Foods and told them to take it off their list. I have not heard back from them but I got to wondering what else on there shouldn't be on there. Obviously I'll check labels but what about things that are labeled to include 'spices'. If they are on this list, should I trust them? :(

Everyone makes mistakes..with this disease you have to be VERY careful....even if it says gluten-free I always check b/c you just never know!!!

I look at it as a 'tool'. It is my responsibility to check labels, heck the list is atleast a starting point. I wouldn't hold it against them too much. Central Market had Kellogg's Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes on they're list. I don't think there is anyway it will ever be perfect unless we just eliminate gluten from the planet ;) wishful thinking..

I thought I read on this board that Rice dream is now gluten free? Apparently they changed the production process or ingredients or whatever (I don't drink rice milk, so didn't really pay attention) but anyway, are you sure it isn't gluten free? Sometimes products change for the better... :)

No, it says it right on the label-' contains gluten from barley protein at less that .002%' and to me that's not gluten free. Keep in mind this is not the stuff out of the fridge. I buy the shelved one so maybe it's something about that one. I check labels, but how do you all deal with the stuff that has 'spices' and 'natural flavorings'. If they are on this list, do you think they're safe to try?

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
