Ct Scan

I am finally having my CT scan on Friday. I'm a bit nervous, but I am sure it will be fine. I have had one before and it was no big deal. I guess I just want to find out what this pain is I have been having for the last few months.

I know someone had mentioned before that you need to ask for a certain kind of contrast (the stuff you drink). I believe they said clear...however I want to be sure. So which contrast was the gluten-free one??

They said that they mix the gunk with crystal light lemonade.......I know it's a KRAFT product, but it isn't something I buy...anyone know if it's gluten-free? I'm sure I won't have an opportunity to read their label.

They did say I could bring in my own drink mix if I wanted, which I might just do that instead.

Jessica I think you are thinking of two differnt posts. As for the CT you need to make sure it is gluten free, it will be water based and you should be able to see through it. Also if they are going to inject any contrast material and you have DH make very sure you let them know. The solution is no big deal to drink, not as hard to get down as the gluten filled stuff. I have had CTs with both and with the gluten containing solution I didn't even make it home before I started to get sick.

The post that referenced crystal light is I think from a thread on the prep for colonoscopy. But I could be wrong. With a CT you will have the prep, if any at the hospital right before the test. I don't know if crystal light is gluten-free but hopefully someone else will. They just miixed mine with a little cranberry juice.

Edit, accidentally posted twice

Ooopss sorry didn't mean to confuse you. The imaging center where I am having my CT done says that THEY will be mixing the contrast with crystal light........unless I bring my own (like country time lemonade). Sooo that was why I was wondering if crystal light is gluten-free. I'll probably just take my country time with me haha Tastes better anyways. I take the prep (contrast mixed with crystal light or country time) at the hospital about an hour before the CT.

I was mostly wondering about the contrast. I was thinking I needed to have the clear one and you confirmed what I was thinking. I believe before (pre-gluten-free) when I had my CT it was this cloudy junk and it took me a while to get it all down. It was not so tasty! ha However, I was also super sick and nothing tasted good at the time.

Thanks for the info!!

Hi Jessica, you may want to try posting the query about Crystal Light in the products section, more folks may see it that way. Good luck on your test for me it was one of the easiest tests I ever had done and with the gluten-free solution it had no after effects.

I had my CT this morning. It went very well. They made sure the contrast was gluten-free, even let me read the bottle to double check. They brought out the crystal light and let me read it (it was KRAFT). They were SOOOO understanding about making sure I didn't get glutened.

They had a hard time getting my IV in. It took a few sticks to get it done. Test itself took very little time. The tech who was doing my scan was checking me out and said "now this contrast can cause diarrhea, so don't worry if it does, that is a normal thing".......yep it sure can!! Other than the diarrhea things went prety well.

Happy it went well, Jessica. I hope it provides some much needed results for you!

I recently had one done, but had the barium contrast (thick and yucky), plus the IV contrast. The barium was the worst....and you are right, the test itself is actually very quick!!!

Hope your "side effects" go away quickly.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
