Think about it this way:

Most disease and cancer is the result of years consuming harmful processed and modified food products. Industry has poisoned the food supply for profit and convenience.

I was misdiagnosed for 24 years by every MD I visited. After a little research I learned my grandmother died from celiac disease that was left untreated resulting in lymphoma of the colon. My Aunt had intestinal obstruction at age 60 and still was misdiagnosed with diverticulitious, put on a colostomy bag for 6 months, diseased colon was removed, healthy colon reattached and the bag removed. Finally after 10 years since her surgery just now discovered why she had a fear of wheat and dairy.

Now back to why you can "think about it this way" and the reason for celiac disease.

Celiac Disorder forces you to eat healthy and consume food that you will benefit from. It is a blessing for the few chosen to have a built in mechanism that will provide you motivation to adopt a diet that basically will prevent the advancement of disease, cancer, heart disease, thrombosis, diabetes, CDV1 and CVD2, PAD, MS, Neurodegeneration, Allergies, and an endless list if illnesses caused by processed food as a result of the industrial introduction of unhealthy consumables by the dairy and food cartels who have lobbied the FDA in an effort to profit from FDA approved products that are unhealthy for consumption.

celiac disease is, as we know, allergic responses to wheat, related grain products and processed gluten. celiac disease also increases the risk for dairy allergies. I have eliminated all dairy and wheat products resulting in a "very healthy" lifestyle that I thought was gone forever after I began my years of fighting the unknown culprit that would have eventually resulted in some incurable disease and eventually premature death.

Dairy was a no-brainer to remove after I visited the nomilk.com site that really opened my eyes to the poison in dairy.

Wheat was a little hard to accept but after perusing the many helpful posts on this website from many of you and after contacting the Mayo Clinic, I became well informed, so thank you to all of you that helped to open my eyes and for sharing your experiences.

I could go on forever with data to support the purpose and blessing of celiac disease, the ideal internal alarm for healthy living and the return to a youthful self.

I suffered at the hands of our system by being prescribed xanax for 10 years to lessen the anxiety "internal alarm" of my body trying to tell me something of which was numbed by the doctors.

I suffered rectal bleeding for 24 years as doctors just insisted it was my hemorrhoids and to not worry unless I wanted to repair them. Wow, what a wrong call that was by the MD.

I suffered from bacterial conjunctivitis "allergy related" in my eyes, very painful I might add, for 10 years that upon removing dairy and wheat, vanished after years of MD's telling me I was allergic to my dog and my environment.

The benefits of celiac disease for me:

Removed the poison of wheat, dairy, drugs, and the many other chemicals poured down the throat of consumers.

All I ever needed during the period of withdrawal from the above mentioned products was L-Theanine (amino acid) to take the edge off the xanax and abort any issue of loss that I may encounter based upon the many posts read here. I hate to say it but I never felt any loss or sadness by ridding my body of the many poisons. I FEEL GREAT!!!

Be thankful for celiac disease if you heed it's early warning. I listened just in the eleventh hour and am very thankful for the wake up call my body was sending. Hopefully my progress removes any risk or need for treatment of disease related issues that would require invasive procedures.

Thank you Celiac Disorder wake up call.

One of the chosen few ;o)

Thank you FEELGOOD for your positive statements. I'm so glad that your body is healing.

I just wish we could drop the "Disease" from Celiac Disease. It is only a disease relative to society. Basically, it is not us, it's our environment and the foods we are exposed to.

Anyway, great message...just what I needed today!

. . . .

celiac disease is, as we know, allergic responses . . . .

Am I out of line to request that you replace "allergic" w/ "auto-immune" in the future?

There are certainly ppl who are allergic to wheat, but they'll never have the complications or associated disorders that a celiac can get.

I think when the average shmoe hears "allergy" they think hay fever. (Unless their own child could die from a peanut allergy)

Celiac is an auto-immune disorder and has more in common w/ MS & Lupus than w/ allergies.

Thank you

My DD feels the same way about the "Disease" part. She thinks it makes her sound infected or something. Maybe it should be called "Celiactic" like "Diabetic" instead.

Great news!

The big job now is getting the word out and reaching more people that suffer from celiac, and other disorders caused by gluten.

I stand corrected. Celiac is a "disorder" not a disease. Left untreated, the end result is disease like a form of cancer ect....

Yes, I will in the future identify as auto-immune disorder as privided in definition:

autoimmune disorder of the small bowel that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals in all age groups after early infancy. Symptoms may include chronic diarrhoea, failure to thrive (in children) and fatigue, but these may be absent and associated symptoms in all other organ systems have been described. It affects approximately 1% of Indo-European populations, though it is significantly underdiagnosed. A growing portion of diagnoses are being made in asymptomatic persons as a result of increasing screening.[1]

Coeliac disease is caused by a reaction to gliadin, a gluten protein found in wheat (and similar proteins of the tribe Triticeae which includes other cultivars such as barley and rye). Upon exposure to gliadin, the enzyme tissue transglutaminase modifies the protein, and the immune system cross-reacts with the bowel tissue, causing an inflammatory reaction. That leads to flattening of the lining of the small intestine, which interferes with the absorption of nutrients. The only effective treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet.

This condition has several other names, including: c

:) uhhhhhhh you're welcome? ;)

So many disparate ways to reply to this.

(I guess it goes w/out saying that irritability can be a symptom)

Not sure whether going from "allergy" to the above indicates you've scaled the steep part of the learning curve in a few hrs, or if I should just ask for a link to where it was copied.

<too snippy?>

I'm sorry you took my comment differently than I'd intended.

Btw the possible symptoms & assoc conditions/disorders is pages long.

The site you quoted massively understates symptoms w/ a simple "may include chronic diarrhoea(sic), failure to thrive (in children) and fatigue".

A great many of us dealt w/, or currently are dealing w/, problems far more serious than those the site implies comprise what a celiac may expect.

I see your acct was created today.

Have you been gluten-free for long?

Hope you keep mostly feeling good, FEELGOOD.

:)

I feel great, thanks for asking.... I think :o). As for the "pages of symptoms", I did not want to fill your time with you reading pages of something you obviously have read.

Dairy free 1 month, gluten free 1 week. Very excited to be free of the poison and ready to focus on my strategy to good health and long life. I'm very confident both will be achieved.

The amount of material available is ever increasing and the "paste" in question is from Wikpedia.

I hope you feel great as well!

I DO feel great, thx, even stuPENdous(!), ~98% of the time, for the last few months.

Welcome to the forum! :)

And a slightly belated welcome to the gluten-free world!

Sounds like you've had vast improvement in a short time. Gotta love that!!

Guest thatchickali

I have a feeling this is partly in response to my recent threads regarding anger and depression (the dark side of Celiac).

My personal anger stems from the fact that I have eliminated the foods I loved for 19 years, I am in a period of mourning. I am also more sick now that I've gone gluten free than I ever have been in my life. I was already suffering malnourishment and now that I have had to eliminate the things keeping me hanging onto some sort of energy level I feel like I've been hit by a truck every minute of every day. Sleeping doesn't feel good, being awake doesn't feel good, being hungry doesn't feel good, and eating feels worse.

You're a lucky one, but I am stuck with the grief process right now and wishing I had something different even if it was deadly because I'm not happy with the life I'm (barely) living right now.

Seriously. It make us sounds like it is terminal. When I say that I have Celiac Disease, people give me the strangest look like "Gosh, how long do you have?". Celiactic! I like that! >> Kim

@Ginger38, Diabetes and Celiac often go hand in hand.  Having more than one autoimmune disease is common with Celiac.  I'd err on the side of caution and go gluten free.   I did not want to go on insulin, either.  I got my diabetes under control by following the low histamine version of the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (Dr. Sarah Ballantyne).  My diet now does include carbs.   We're supporting you through this difficult time.

@Ginger38,  I've been there with horrible symptoms and diarrhea accidents and diabetes and the insulin conundrum!  My doctors were just as frustrating!   I had nutritional deficiencies.  I know your doctors refuse to test for this.  So did mine, saying "I can't make money prescribing vitamins."  Some members say a naturopathic doctor is more open to testing for deficiencies.  Remember not to start supplementing until after testing is done.  Otherwise the supplements will raise your blood levels falsely.   I had studied Nutrition at university, so I decided to supplement essential vitamins and minerals.  A B Complex, extra Thiamine (Benfotiamine) for the diabetes, magnesium and Vitamin D are the supplements I started with.   The B vitamins are water soluble so any excess is excreted easily.  Thiamine even in high doses is safe and nontoxic.  Diabetics lose more thiamine in urine because of weird kidney stuff.   I wanted to get my blood glucose levels under control because gluten free foods made my level spike for long periods, too.  I absolutely did not want to go on insulin.  Once you do, the pancreas stops making it.  Very scary.  Best to help the pancreas function with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine. I began the low histamine version of the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (developed by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, A Celiac herself).  It's a low carb, very strict diet at first, then expanded.  I considered it similar to feeding a sick baby.  You don't give hard to digest foods to a baby.  You give easily digestible foods.  This allows time for the gastrointestinal tract to calm down and heal.  Symptoms started to calm down quickly.  With the vitamins, I started feeling much better.  My blood glucose levels stabilized.  I did not go on insulin.  I do not take anti-glycemic pharmaceutical drugs like Metformin.  Just diet.  You're making the right decision to live as a Celiac.  Your body is telling you clearly.  You can get through this.  You're strong and you're fighting for yourself and your baby.  Good job!  You have the Tribe behind you!

Though trying to diligently eat gluten free, recent bloodwork was bad so searching for culprits.  Eat lot of (preferably mixed) nuts.  Most allergen labels say may be processed on equpment that also processes wheat, etc.  Finally found ONE kind (unsalted mixed) at BJ's.  Wessley (their store brand) that did not contain that warning.  Says in large letters "A GLUTEN FREE FOOD."  Well, all nuts are a gluten free FOOD!  Have been eating and now wonder if this is intentionally decieving.  So stopped eating until find culprit.  Nuts are so good for protein and fiber (especially if trying to not eat meat).  'Tis so frustrating.  Thanks to above, I'll look into Tierra Farms.

Despite being very diligent about eating gluten free, my recent bloodwork was bad.  So been on a mission to find the culprit(s).  During Covid my daughter found "certified gluten free" Yasso mint chocolate chip yogurt bars at Costco.  I was elated and have been eating them since.  When delving into possible culprits I discovered that the boxes with 12 bars at both Costco and BJ's no longer say "certified gluten free."  But the boxes with 4 bars at groceries and Target still say "certified gluten free."  Contacted the manufacturer and was told to go by what the box says.  So guess different machinery is used.  Was also told they were in the process of changing boxes.  Will be interesting to see what that brings.
