Greetings,

New here, and new to gluten free and daity free living... I found out in July, after using the Detection Diet and eliminating wheat and by the second day I felt like a million bucks! Then later determined I have a dairy intolerance as well. Anyhoo, I am so glad to have found this forum. I have been reading anything I can get my hands on and try to be as stict as I possibly can be. Truthfully, I have had about 11 days straight feeling human again.

I am an RN, and so might comment on some posts from a medical standpoint. Have felt alone, frustrated and just plain hungry most days in the past. Finding the right food, has been a hassle living in central Wisconsin. And being in the heart of diaryland - you can guess how that can be an issue.

I have two children, and a loving husband who is about fed up with this, as he does not like to see me suffer and feels powerless to help. As you all know, sometimes the ingredients sneak up on you. You forget a particular chemical name and bam, you gut aches!

I am completely off of my Prilosec which was treating my GERD for about 11 years! Yikes! All stemmed from the gluten and dairy intolerance evidentally. I was looking to get surgery for my GERD in 2006. Scary!

Anyhow, wanted to introduce myself, and hope I can be of service. I also hope to not be so hungry so much, and to be able to get help for myself. Thanks for listening!

HI, i am also new to this diet (although my daughter is gluten free and my daughter gluten, dairy and soya free) I always said to my hubby dd just doesn't know when she is full... but now that i am on it I AM STARVING!!! Seriously, i don't know your life style, but i am a stray at home mom - so i definately have a lot of advantages, being able to heat up my own lunch etc. I find breakfast the hardest - i usually make a cottage cheese or tuna salad for breakfast, or an omelate or something light, quick to make and filling. I make a big supper and heat up the leftovers for lunch the next day. I do not have any health food shops near me, and don't bake gluten free either - i use regular products from the shop and get around ok. If you want to know more, just answer!

First I want to give you my warmest welcome, you have indeed found a great place to not only give but get lots of valuble information, look around a bit you are sure to find almost anything you can imagine.

I recently printed off a few recipes I am going to try out as my regular diet has seemed kind of "blah" lately and most of my expiriments have flopped, well except the personal pizza one anyways.

Please keep in mind each of us has their own set of diet guidlines, currently I am just gluten-free but am still limiting my dairy to occationally, dont want to get to far ahead of my body, lol

also please feel free to ask any questions you can think of, while we may not be dr's and nurses we do have eons of valuble life expirience!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! I am gluten- and casein-free and working on being soy-free, but that one keeps sneaking in there on me.

My other half oscilates between being a super understanding totally wonderful guy to sometimes being insensitive. They have to go through an adjustment, too. Try not to let anything get in your way, but also let them be OK and not have to be afraid of stepping into the kitchen. You're both learning, and you'll get this.

It's now to the point that my hubby knows what is gluten-free and isn't. In turn for him making me gluten-free dinners, I make him some delicious desserts, sometimes with gluten, for him to keep his sanity.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I am sittin ghere this evening having a heck of a time. Only thing I can figure is the tea I drank which I could feel the reaction coming on this AM, and then the Chiclets I had this afternoon. Bad bad feeling, as you all know.

For the record, I honor personal life experience, and respect anything you can all share.

Fretting a bit about Turkey day as all are coming here, because I cannot risk them messing up the meal or contaminating something. I have found I am really senstivie to even crumbs, flour inthe air like in the bakery etc. So, we have no gluten flour in the house, so hubby can't make a mistake. Anyhow, having everyone here will put a lot of pressure on me because as you all know, things can look so good on paper and then taste so horrible. The basics should be covered though so noone will starve.

It still stinks. It's just hard as you know.

Take care everyone. Hope your tummies make it through the holiday. :)

Hope everything went well for you today as I know you were nervous!

Thanksgiving went GREAT! I could eat everything! And there were no complaints from the gluten eaters. Either they knew better, or it tasted alright to them too. It was a great relief and in fact I was still eating Thanksgiving as of Monday I was enjoying it SO much. I am so thankful for that. :D

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
