Help, What Am I Reacting To

Yesterday I has some Tostitos with Tostitos Salsa Con Queso (nacho cheese) and I felt like I ate something with gluten. Bad stomach pain, headache, overwhelming depression, tired, my eyes burned. I couldn't figure it out because their website says gluten free. Well today I was finally feeling better and I ate some Tapioca pudding (which I have never tried) and same reaction! What is going on? Am I going crazy? I don't feel like I have the flu, you know how it feels different? I am so frustrated, if I was gonna eat something that would make me sick like this I would have had a slice of pizza and at least enjoyed it!

I would recommend that you eliminate dairy for a while. Let your system heal a little bit, then you can add dairy a little at a time to see if it bothers you.

SOUNDS LIKE DAIRY IS YOUR PROBLEM FOR CERTAIN..........ELIMINATE IT FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AND THEN TRY AGAIN. HANG IN THERE

I have reacted to both Tostitos Chips and Tostitos Salsa before. I stopped eating them and started making my own chips from corn tortillas and just eat homemade salsa.

I am so frustrated, if I was gonna eat something that would make me sick like this I would have had a slice of pizza and at least enjoyed it!

I totally know what you mean! If we're going to have to go through the pain, we should at least be able to enjoy the gluten!

I wouldn't touch Tostitos with someone elses hand, for anyone that eats them all the time sorry if that offends but for me most of this companies products are like playing roulette with my body. Sometimes they are fine other times they are not and it is just not worth the risk. They may have 'gluten free' ingredients but CC issues make these far from safe. When first diagnosed I was overjoyed to get their gluten free list but it wasn't long before I realized how gluten free most items on it weren't. I guess this turned into a rant, sorry about that but mainstream companies will do and label anything so they can sell the product and it infuriates me. Just look how many put wheat starch, a totally nutritionally useless filler, into their non wheat cereal products a short time ago just so they could say 'multigrain' on a label.

If you were glutened it can take a bit for the effects to go away. Also as mentioned many of us can not handle dairy, some permanently. Once your villi have healed if you are lactose intolerant that should go away, if your body is forming antibodies to the protein in dairy then that is permanent. Have you considered going to enterolab for you and your family? They can tell you if you are forming antibodies or not, as long as you are not IGA deficent.

My Dr thought I was gluten intolerant. But it turns out I have fructose malsorbtion. Try eliminating any high fructose corn syrup. I also eliminated all sugars. Some artificial sweetners I can tolerate. Its worth it to get tested. You just take a breath test. Good Luck!

@Jmartes71, What a stressful journey!  I'm so glad you found your way here.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Doctors don't recognize vitamin deficiency symptoms.  Which supplements are you taking?  Just herbal ones or vitamins?

Do you consume dairy? Have you recently had an infection or cold? Do you have digestive symptoms?   Do you eat processed gluten free foods? What is your Vitamin D level?

@lizzie42, How are your daughter's bowel movements?  Does she have gas, diarrhea or constipation?  Does her squeezing feeling move around in her abdomen or is it consistently in one spot?  Is she dehydrated? How much fruit does she eat?  Fruit juices? I'd recommend cutting out the cheese for a while, till you get it sorted.
