Help Me Get Records

HI!

I requested the baby's records from the Ped Gi. WHat came was his computer notes - History of patient, discussion of sypmtoms, exam , assesment, and plan of action and procedures with a listing of the of places he scoped that says this

Findings in esophagus (enodscopic: NOrmal endoscopic appearance of entire stomach

(list several more things like that)

THen it has Biopsies taken and another listing of things that go

histology of esophageal biopsies:normal

Histology of antra biopsies : normal

And so on.

No where in these records do they have the actual report sent from the lab to them that they based their normal findings on. I know they should have because I have several reports in my medical file that is straight from the pathologist and list what all was performed, how they prepared the slides, what stainig was used, and so on. Do I need to request something different from the dr or do I need to request reports from somewhere different? I thought the pathology report would be included in the dr records but it is just their computer notes.

THanks

Stacie

Hi. I would go back to your doctor and ask specifically for those things you know are missing. They should be a part of the record, and you have every legal right to have a copy of those. If there is some reason that the doc. does not have those or is unwilling to give them to you , then he needs to tell you where to get them from. A simple phone call should be enough. Hope that helps

Well I made the phone call again to the office (we're not on the best of terms after he told me to put the baby back on wheat and forget about this gluten stuff since the biopsy ruled out Celiac - you can only imagine my response) and the records lady said OOOPS She just forgot to put all the surgical path results in. She would drop them in the mail to me. So we shall see what I get this time.

THANKS!

Stacie

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
