Had My Endo Today

Hi today I had an endo and a colonoscopy (to rule out just about everything). The colonoscopy report they gave me was clear of anything. Now the endo report had some things on it I was unsure what they meant.

This is what it said:

No gross lesions in esophogas.

No gross lesions in the stomach..

Diffuse mucosal flattening was found in the entire duodenum. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology. Diminished motility of small bowel was noticed. Duodenal aspirate obtained for bacterial culture. The exam was suspecious of celiac disease.

So here is my question: what exactly does diffuse mucosal flattening mean? I know I have to still wait for the biopsies, but I was curious if that meant the villi were flat and if so how can they see that in a scope and not under a microscope or do I have it confused.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I found websites that had pictures of endoscopy photos and examples of what this very thing looks like. The duodenum should have folds visible, look like huge wrinkles in the pictures. In celiac, these folds are diminished or even gone. I think this is what the report refers to.

Hello-

I also had similar wording on my report. Here are some excerpts:

Diffuse mucosal flattening was found in the 2nd part of the duodenum and in the 3rd part of the duodenum...The examination was suspicious for celiac disease.

Also, one of the slides was labeled:

"3rd Portion of the Duodenum: flattened villi"

In the end, my biopsies came back negative, even though the diet helps, I was TTG positive via Enterolab and I am DQ2.5. At my follow-up visit, I asked the doctor what she meant when she told me after the procedure that she "saw Celiac". She explained that villi should look like shag carpet, but mine looked like berber. What your doc saw with you could be similar

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.
