Hello, headed to Kansas City and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for restaurants. I know there's a PF Changs and that Waldo's Pizza has a gluten free pizza. Are there any other places I should check out? Thanks!

Definitely go to Waldo Pizza. My son's favorite!

There is a place called Grand St. Cafe. I have never been there (it's on my list) but have heard that you can get gluten free sandwiches and pasta there. I think it is in the Plaza area. They have a website.

Minksy's has had training and been certified. You will find that just because they have a gluten-free menu, doesn't mean the food is really gluten-free. For example: Appleby's has one. They list the French fries. However, at the bottom they mention that they fry the fries in the same oil with the gluten breaded onion rings, moz sticks, green beans, etc. Those fries were only gluten-free before they went in the fryer.

Besides P.F. Chang's and Waldo's (both rated highly), there is an Outback Steakhouse and a place called Yard House that also have gluten-free menus (both have them on their web site too). Cheeseburger in Paradise, Red Robin, and Chipotle also there - all with gluten-free menus. There is also a Minsky's Pizza which I personally don't know anything about except that they have participated in the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness's GREAT training program (Gluten-free Restaurant Education and Awareness Training). Many others, including fast food, with gluten-free menus, but none that I have seen rated positively.

Good luck!

There is one in Overland Park & I have heard they are opening one by Zona Rosa on Barry RD. They told me to tell the server that I want gluten-free because of illness & they will be extra careful. I haven't been yet but several gluten-free families have & like it.

My feeling is that histamine intolerance/MCAS is doesn't get enough press in the medical world and is greatly underdiagnosed.

I just saw in Trent’s response something about the vitamins. Good to know.

Have you heard anything about being celiac and pills, vitamins not absorbing into your system?  I hope that makes sense. Basically, you don’t get the full effect. There is something that helps the absorption, like Vit C?? Thanks for all of your help.

Updating to note that it has been over a month since I initially wrote Prana and they haven't provided a response to my question about what testing limits (ppm) they use now. I've sent them a couple reminder emails but nothing. Booo.
    • TheDHhurts
I wrote them back seeking clarification on their testing. The response was that they test to ensure the product is 5 ppm or under. So far no trouble with the product but I hate to see these companies drop the outside certification.
