Burping!

I've been burping for 2 years now and in Dec 06 I couldn't go 5 minutes without burping. Surprisingly enough I don't know how to burp on my own. My burping has definitely decreased but I still get pretty gassy. I was wondering how long it took people who had problems with burping/gas who went gluten-free for it to go away?

Sorry we haven't responded yet. For me, I didn't have burping problems to your extent but I did always burp alot after I ate especially with gluten. Now I only burp if I accidently get glutened or go over my quota for dairy. How long have you been gluten free? I'm almost 6 months gluten free and feel the best ever, it can take a while to heal, some up to 2 years. Good luck!

I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks now. I'm still burping and I don't think it's been long enough for me to notice yet.

That's interesting. I'm sitting here trying to think when is the last time I burped? I know before going gluten free I did at times burp a bit after a meal, but I don't do that anymore. Maybe there is a realtion to it. One of the first things I noticed after going gluten free was the fact that I didn't have a running nose after my lunch. Yest lunch was usually full of gluten.

I have been sitting and belching (not burping) for over a week and feeling absolutely miserable. Finally dawned on me I started a new med just over a week ago and thought I had checked it out. Well, silly me, it contains both lactose monohydrate and some unspecified "starch". Bet it's wheat. Duh! Yeah, both gluten and lactose intolerant, that's me. Burping has been a feature of my life for years and it had gone away. Well, that med's out.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study
