My Son Has A Rash.

Hello, I have posted here in the past, but it's been awhile.

My son is 20 months and has been gluten free since he was nine months. I am as well since I am still nursing. On the fourth of June we went to my father's b-day party and had cake. I was told it was gluten free. My son had some. The next day he had a rash. I went to the store and found the brand that we bought. It was Allergy Free.... Soy, nut, egg, but not wheat. I was heart broken. It's the first time he has been glutened. He had a belly ache for three day. But now we are still dealing with the rash fall out. It's all over him. I was wondering how long it can be expected to last. It's be 20 days. Is this normal for it to last so long? Our doctor is no help. They said it's more likely from the heat. <_< We are seeing a new doc in a few days. I would be help I would be thankful for.

One other thing, we were told to use Eucerin, I called the company and they say it's gluten-free but it made in a factory that has wheat in it. Anyone use it safely or have a suggestion for another. He is very sensitive though so it has to be free of everything.

Thanks again.

AMK

My dd just had a massive reaction to something, although no gluten symptoms, so I think it was just a contact rash of some kind. It was all over her neck and shoulders and itched like CRAZY! I just used some Walgreens brand hydrocortizone cream before she went to bed and the next morning it was 80% better. No longer inflamed, just brownish and very dry. 2 more applications and it disappeared...

I don't use Eucerine cream, but I use Aquaphor regularly on both kids' eczema, works like a charm every time!

You could try some hydrocortisone on the rash. My son had the same problem (before we knew it was wheat/gluten) and we found that olive oil soap (Kiss my face) worked best. I use the lotion also. It has oat extract- ds can tolerate oats. HTH.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
