Chronic "explosive" Diarrhea, Reflux Etc

I have gone through many years of my life like this like many of you have also, but i haven't really gotten any answer as of yet, so i would like to list my symptoms and maybe they all together may say something? Feel free to give any input you like, all are very much welcome

it began with abdominal pain and explosive diarrhea(sometimes i had to run to the toilet away from the table one or more times while eating). This started very early, maybe from birth i don't know exactly. When i got older the abdominal pains diminished but the diarrhea is still there, and i also got reflux like symtoms(without heartburn). i was a very thin child, late bloomer, but always hungry, i was hungry even 5 minutes after eating sometimes. I also got temper outbursts and hyperactivity as a child, but i haven't any mental disorder after testing, thanks for that. i also had a craving for sweets, drank 1l sugar drinks per day from an early age, much gases, depression, brittle nails, dry skin and more.. One thing i know is that, it isn't lactose allergy after testing and i tend to react with diarrhea to almost all food i guess, i haven't noticed anything particular that causes more problems. I also drink pretty much water and i crave salty food if it says something. I have never experienced constipation, just diarrhea and i never think i have used the toilet less then 2-3 times per day in my life, sometimes 10+ and once it starts it could go on several times in a row.

Several things come to mind:

Immune deficiency

Parasites

Celiac - Gluten intolerance

Pancreatic deficiency

Have you been tested for these?

So you were tested for lactose intolerance but not gluten intolerance?

I started having similar symptoms when I was pregnant with my second child. Absolutely everything gave me heartburn. After he was born I thought the stuff would go away but it didn't, and hasn't 17 years later. I couldn't eat at a restaurant without finding a bathroom within 10 minutes and even eating at home caused problems sometimes. Even on a good day I had D about 3 times a day. This really sucked when I was on crutches for 5 months. I have had my gall bladder out, had a sigmoidoscopy, been considered a hypochondriac, and then diagnosed with IBS.

My chiropractor suggested a GI test and I figured, "Hey, why not, I've had everything else." The results came back positive for sensitivities to gluten, eggs, soy, and milk. I took the results to my current doctor and he looked at them and said I had Celiac Disease. A blood panel was negative for Celiac, but I expected that since I had been gluten free for a few days.

It has been a month since my diagnosis and going gluten free and I'm happy to say that this last week I have had solid, normal poos. I've even cheered myself. I laugh reading that but it's true. I still go more than once a day sometimes but nothing like before.

I'm having a harder time giving up milk products, even though I know I'd be more comfortable (and less gassy) if I did. I just love my coffee creamer... and chocolate. At least I know what to expect now.

Try going gluten free for a few weeks, see what happens. It's kinda a pain in the butt, (nice pun, sorry) trying to change over but I haven't felt deprived most of the time. I bought the book "Gluten Free Cooking for Dummies" and it has helped a lot. I bought flour mix to substitute in baking, and some gluten free pasta, and more fruits and veggies and really haven't changed how I eat that much other than it's now gluten free instead of glutenated.

The Expanded GI test I got from my LPN tested for these things along with a bunch of other things. It wasn't very pretty, I had to catch poo and put samples in a vial, twice, but man, did it test for stuff.

Fungi & yeast, Parasites & ova, Biotic type bacteria-pro and bad, giardia, Crptosporidium, Toxoplasma, Ameba, H-Pylori, Lysozyme, Anti-Chymotrypsin, occult blood, pH, Ab. SIgA for casein, soy, albumin, gliandin, and worms. I thought it was a pretty good deal for only $250.

The test came from Diagnos-Techs, Inc. POB 389662, Tukwila, WA., 425/251-0596.

thanks ShayFL i will look into it

I have done an gastroscopy, it revealed that i had a small hernia and the doctor said that i didn't have any helicobacter. That is all i know really, but i don't know if they did any testing for Celiac Disease along with it. The doctor also thought it was strange that i hadn't any heartburn along with my reflux like symtoms, but i haven't had it. I did the gastroscopy because i first started vomiting up my food after eating and they confirmed that i had an inflammation in my stomach, now i don't vomit up anything but i still have the reflux. As soon as i stress, lift heavy or anything like this but mostly if i don't get enough of sleep. As far as the diarrhea i can't really say, if i eat a pizza with much cheese i have less diarrhea, but when i eat bacon with much greese i have more ..it's about what i know. I drink exessively with coffee too, but when i took a break from it it didn't get better, so i have tried some things on my own but it's really hard to know what's causing it. I am most worried about the lack of energy( i want to think so atleast..) that comes with constant diarrhea, that's my main dilemma. I also think that i have more diarrhea at home compared to when i'm away, because i eat more when i'm sitting at home. When i'm away my stomach becomes calmer. Some other symtoms which may be related, i just write it out spontanously.. cold hands and feet, white spots on nails, serious otitis media(ear infection), very tensed solar plexus area, felt cold when heaving cramps and diarrhea(as a child), low blood pressure, one strange thing ..Losec and Loperamid for example have no proven effect on me really but the side effect for me is impotency(right away), i never heard of this before from anyone, worse diarrhea earlier in the day(but not much difference), astigmatism, cannot stand cold weather(i get absolutely freezing i mean), sometimes twitches in muscles

So you were tested for lactose intolerance but not gluten intolerance?

Correct, i did it a long time ago, i guess they weren't especially aware of Celiac back then or i just had a-typical symptoms perhaps.

Try going gluten free for a few weeks

I think i will, just want to check a couple other alternatives first i guess

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. @stephaniekl, welcome to the forum, Is your daughter taking any nutritional supplements?   Weight loss and failure to thrive are two symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms are not recognized as such by doctors.   I experienced similar symptoms when I became malnourished.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can become worse quickly, and can affect one emotionally and mentally.  Although blood tests for thiamine aren't accurate, do have your daughter checked for nutritional deficiencies.  Thiamine B 1 works with the other B vitamins and magnesium.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 help improve Gerd.  All the B vitamins are frequently low due to malabsorption.  Vitamin D will help calm the immune system.  Thiamine helps the immune system fight off viruses like those tick borne illnesses.   Thiamine Mononitrate, which is in many vitamin supplements, is not bioavailable.  I was taking a multivitamin containing thiamine mononitrate and still became deficient in thiamine. Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  A form called TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is also excellent for correcting thiamine deficiency.  A combination of Thiamine, Cobalamine B12, and Pyridoxine B 6 has analgesic properties.  I take it for back pain.   Keep us posted on your progress! Has prednisone or some other systemic steroid been tried that might quiet her immune system down for a while? I have two acquaintances with Lyme's disease. It is a wicked condition that has long fingers.

We have.  She is so limited as to what she can eat.  She has a nutritionist, but they are even at a loss.  Right now, her pain is so significant that she can only eat 5-10 bites a meal.   We just got some labs back today and she is hypoglycemia, anemic and her immune system is shot.  She also is positive for 3 tickborne illnesses.  Thanks for your help!

A much better suggestion than that of the new doctor!
