Any Suggestions For Relief

Oh help. I am so frustrated. I have completely, I think, cut gluton from my diet - and it hasn't been easy as you all know - but my stomache is bloated huge, I am so tired and cranky and even my tongue hurts. Tuesday I had a caramel rice cake with PB and J and boom - a reaction. I don't get it. Otherwise, I have been making sandwiches with bread for my son. I don't know. Plus - I can't seem to loose any weight and I don't hardly eat and really bike like 10 - 15 miles a day. Any suggestions on what happened? Any suggestions on relief.

Guessing...some people react to Quaker Rice Cakes, others don't. I eat Lumberg Rice Cakes. Have others double-dipped into the PB? Did you wash well after making the sandwich?

Have you checked your old, scratched pots and pans, toaster, colander, shampoo, lip balms/sticks, lotions, meds, vitamins? Gluten is a tricky little sucker and can hide everywhere.

I would keep a food journal and document your reactions to different foods or products. If you have a question, just ask.

Oh help. I am so frustrated. I think I remember reading someone's post not to trust Quaker, possibly cross contamination at the factory. Try another brand to see if you react to them.

I agree that cross contamination is a big problem. It seems it can happen anywhere, with anything. For example,for awhile I was eating lays potato chips as technically they are Gluten-Free but I know they are made at the same facility. In the beginning, I thought "Oh come on, being made in the same facility can't be that big a deal!" so I was still eating the chips and a number of other things. I was fine for maybe 4 full bags of potato chips and then for whatever reason, one day, this one particular bag glutened me. I thought maybe it was something else so I ate from the same bag again maybe 2 weeks later as a test and was glutened again. It's amazing how fast that reaction occurs. Bloating up, stomachache and deep stabbing gut pains, and then the next day, Dh rash coming out on my face.

So I learned, while maybe I can get away with those Lays Chips sometimes, it's not worth the crazy russian roulette risk that one of those bags could be from a time they didn't thoroughly clean the lines.

Perhaps it's a similar situation with something you are eating? Whenever this happens to me I stop, and reexamine EVERYTHING I'm exposed to. Usually I can find the offender that way. Learning to listen to your body is key, something I've learned is a reaction doesn't just randomly happen, even though sometimes it seems you have truly not been exposed to anything. It always got in there somehow. Think outside the box about what it could be, cosmetics and toiletries are a good suggestion too.

It's so hard, I totally understand and am right there with you. *hug*

I have eaten rice cakes but these were "Cracker Jack". But, I may have double dipped into the PB because I make sandwiches for my son, Liam.

But, odd you should ask, my tongue feels a little swollen and I have developed little cankers - asap. I have noticed this before. Is that weird.

I have become intolerant to peanut butter. I am currently doing somewhat of an ellimination diet. It's not fun, but it's much easier to see what I'm reacting to when I'm eating few foods.

My tongue has been my most symptomatic place, other than my stomach. My tongue always feels swollen and chronically irritated. When I'm super, duper good with eating and strict, that burning sensation goes down a lot! Anyways, as of recently, I've noticed the peanut butter making it worse?!

      Hey there, have you been tested for allergies? You may not only have celiac disease but be allergic. I have celiac disease and am allergic to Barley, wheat and rye.

      I have osteopenia and have cracked three vertebrae.  Niacin is connected to osteoporosis!       Thank you so much for the clarification! Yes to these questions: Have you consulted dietician?  Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Osteoporosis? Thyroid? Anemia?  Do you take any supplements, or vitamins? I’m within healthy range for nutritional tests, thyroid and am not anemic. I do have osteopenia. I don’t take any medications, and the dietician was actually a nutritionist (not sure if that is the same thing) recommended by my physician at the time to better understand gluten free eating.    I almost wish the gluten exposure had triggered something, so at least I’d know what’s going on. So confusing!    Many thanks!
