Oh fun fun fun! Salem at Halloween is crazy but fun! DEFINITELY make reservations. Not sure you'll find an inn right in the center of all the attractions but there are also others in the next town over-Marblehead (which is beautiful).

I live in Beverly (other side of Salem) and gluten-free options abound in Salem. In addition to Finz, Capt's Bar and Grille do gluten-free well (if you like seafood get the haddock over lobster risotto! YUM!). Also, two places do Mexican gluten-free. One is Cilantro which is pricey but excellent. If you call ahead, the chef is the owner as well as she went out of her way to accomodate me. It's real Mexican food (not Tex Mex).

The other is the Edgewater Cafe which is more Tex-Mex but very tsaty too. I've also had no problems at Strega (Italian with cool decor) and the Hawthorne.

There's always Legal Seafoods in Peabody but I think you should have no problem! have fun!

Hello,

Firstly, thank you so much Gemini and Mtndog. I am positive that traveling to Salem will be a breeze and I feel a lot more secure knowing my many gluten free options! It seems, however, that Salem is put on hold this year but for a good reason. My boyfriend is now my fiancee  , which is so exciting, and we're basically plotting and planning! So my next celiac.com question will surely be inquires on where I could find good celiac friendly caterers and cake!

I am certainly not giving up on visiting Salem. It's just being postponed for a little while. Regardless, thank you so much for your answers, guys!

Well....congratulations, young lady!!!! May you have many happy, gluten free years together! :D

If you do come to Salem eventually, make sure to come in October because the foliage is awesome and looks especially beautiful being on the ocean. It really is a fun city to visit!

So far 3 months in - worsening symptoms. I have had the worst constipation in my life and I am primarily eating naturally gluten-free foods like potatoes, eggs, salad with homemade dressing, corn tortillas, etc. I hate gluten-free bread and pasta so I don't eat it. Occasionally I eat gluten-free almond flour crackers. As stated in the post, I don't have any vitamin deficiency. I was already tested.

Talk to your  Talk to your provider about testing for vitamin and mineral deficiency.  celiac disease causes malabsorption and eventually malnutrition.  Especially vitamin D. Having the gallbladder removed seems to be a common step on the way to a Celiac Disease Diagnosis,  Gallbladder is a sympton of deficient Choline. Eggs and red meat are the primary source..Choline makes up a majority of the bile salts.  The bile gets thick, doesn't get enough into intestine to digest fats well.  Can eventually back up into gallbladder, cause gallstones.  Without bile, bowel movements can become hard. Try to avoid all processed foods while you are healing, The gluten-free foods are not fortified with vitamins and use various ingredients to mimic fat that bothers many Celiacs.  Choose vegatables with low omega 6.  Optimum omega 6 to omega 3 ratio is less than 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Grass fed milk is 1:1.   Commercial Dairies milk is 5:1.  They feed wheat, rye and barley Gluten as part of the food mix.

Your DGP-G is also high. The thing to do now would be to trial the gluten-free diet for a few months to see if there is improvement in symptoms.
