I have been craving Chinese food and I really don't want to make it myself. Does anyone have any idea of what would be safe?

Thanks

Sally

P.F. Changs has a glutenfree menu.

Thanks

We don't have a resturant here with that name. Do you know if there are any specific foods that are ok?

Thanks

Sally

I always order steamed chicken with vegetables (and brown rice) and bring my own gluten-free soy sauce (or other sauce) for added flavor! I personally do not trust any other items on the menu!!

Usually "white sauce" dishes are safe, just make sure they use "corn starch" instead of flour as their thickening agent.

You could also get them to boil / steam the chicken and vegtables for you, thats what they do for me.

I hope you find something safe! I know what it's like to crave chinese food :D

I've had trouble with the steamed chicken (don't know if there was an additive, and the language barrier - I tried - was a bit of a problem), so I stick with steamed shrimp and veggies at the local place near me.

Anybody know what we might be able to eat at a Chinese restaurant that would also not contain soy?

I have had a lot of success with our local Chinese places. Before going gluten free I almost always ate lo mein, but I have found that I can order chicken or shrimp fried rice without soy sauce or chow mei fun (rice noodles) (shrimp or chicken) without soy sauce and add wheat free tamiri to it after I get it and it is wonderful!

Be warned, however, I tried this at a Chinese eatery this last weekend in South Orange, New Jersey and was not received well. The cook got really upset and told me he could not make either for me without sauce; it just couldn't be done. I cancelled my order and left.

Thai Kitchen has flavored rice noodle packets (kind of like Ramen noodles-only gluten free) that are very good. I bought some at the Whole Food Market for $.69 per packet. They can also be order online. :D

I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
