Muscle Cramps And Bone Pain

Hi,

Does anyone else get muscle cramping not just in common places like calf muscles but in eg buttocks and hands after being glutened? The reason I'm asking is that on several occasions over the last couple of months I have been unable to sleep because of this. It seems to occur late in the evening and I usually also have a rumbling stomach and feel very hot. It happened again last night. Not sure what the culprit was if it was gluten but we did eat out during the day so who knows. I also get what feels like bone pain in my shins.

Your not alone. In myself I think it is linked to the inflammatory response that my body has to gluten. When I was first diagnosed I thought it might be because of nutritional deficits but I healed up very well GI wise and my nutrient levels are now really good. What helps me when I get glutened and this happens is making sure I am doing gentle stretches before bed after a hot shower or bath. I take very few meds but when I am at my worst I will take a dose of asprin (I use ST. Joseph's Baby) to help bring down the inflammation.

I don't know if this is the case for you but with me tummy rumbling now only happens when I get glutened, it is one of my first signs. My tummy was very loud since childhood, I used to always have a sweater or coat so I could fold it up to muffle the noise in school. I used to wonder why everyone elses stomach rumbled when they were hungrey and mine would only if I ate. Well now I know. Having that go away was great.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for that. Funny you should mention the stomach rumbling when full and not hungry - I'm exactly the same.

I had a period where dairy products would give me muscle spasms. Before I went gluten free I had pain in nearly every joint but now I only have pain where there is osteoarthritis.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
