Celiac Blood Test Results For My Daughter

My 10-year old daughter recently received blood test results back that indicated positive for Celiac. The results are:

The results are as follows:

t-Transglutaminase IgA AB - 134.6

Endomysial Abs, S Positive, Titer 1:640

Gliadian Ab IgA - 46.3

Gliadian IgG 67.5

Reticulin Abs Negative

These numbers really don't mean much to me - does anyone else understand them?

My daughter was diagnosed a year and a half ago with Type 1 diabetes. We've already made many adjustments to her diet due to that, and we were on track to migrate to an insulin pump, but these test results made our endocrynologist want to take pause until we knew more. Thats why we had the blood tests in the first place. We have an appt. with the pediatric gastro-enteurologist (sp?) in early December. Our daughter is not showing any big symptoms; rather, it is a matter of her insulin absorption that seems to be her biggest symptom. Her tummy hurts when her glucose numbers are high, but doesn't seem to bother her much aside from them.

Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated.

The bloodwork results are highly indicative of Celiac, especially considering that they were almost all pretty positive.

Celiac is linked to Type 1 Diabetes.

Its great that you have an appointment w/a GI soon. They will probably discuss taking some biopsies of the small intestine.

Celiac can present without 'major' symptoms. She'll need to keep eating gluten free until at least after the consult with the GI....and until all Celiac diagnostic testing is completed. Don't go gluten free yet.

Good luck. You've come to a great place for support and information.

Wow - thanks so much for the quick response. Our endo. told us not to change her diet, so we haven't done so yet. We have to wait nearly 8 weeks for an appt. with the specialist; seems like a long time, when I keep thinking we're slowly eating away at her digestive system.

I did know there was a link between Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac, but really had hoped it would not be the case.

Anyway, thanks for doing a better job interpreting her blood results than I did!

When I know more after our December appt., I'll likely have many more questions!

Thanks again!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
