Colonoscopy/endoscopy...checking For Celiac

Tomorrow I am going in to hospital for an colonoscopy and an endoscopy. (I have never had these procedures done before) They are testing for celiac amongst other things.

Today I am supposed to be on a clear liquid diet - Water, juice, jelly, clear soup etc.

The trouble is: Its only 11:20am and Im already starving, feeling light headed, dizzy. etc. Ive been known to faint from lack of food.

How do I survive the rest of the day (im at work)?

Have you ever had to do this? How did you cope?

Thanks

Usually when you do a colonoscopy they give you this special drink you are supposed to down. I makes you go, umm, alot of number two down there. Usually you have to go to the bathroom so much that you cannot be far away from a toilet. Most people that are doing prep for colonoscopies STAY home. However, it does not sound like you are doing this, which is odd, and you are only on 'clear liquids' criteria. (From my experience, which we won't get into) I would say GET OFF WORK, stay home, don't go far away from a toilet, drink all the liquids you can (it will make the procedure much more comfortable) to flush all the stuff out of your colon, AND REST! You are going to feel/become extremely weak and hungry.. that's just they way it is without food. It does get to the point though where it levels off and isn't soo bad as the first 12 hours or so. Good luck, get off work if you can. I hope someone else can help you more than I.

Thanks for your help and advice.

I am required to drink all the laxitive mixture and have been adviced to be near a toilet...im dreading that actually. But I dont start that process till 4pm today. Thats why ive been at work.

They day hasnt been to bad. The hunger has started to level out now.

I plan to spend the night resting and get an early night to bed.

Thanks again.

Good luck!

This is why I didn't go to a doctor, but just limped and grappeld my way through my own diagnosis... I CANNOT go long without food before I get sick. And purposely causing diahrrea... I just can't do that.

That's why I'll never have a real diagnosis... it's just too brutal... too barbaric... they ask too much of people who are already down and out.

Good luck ... I hope it all works out easy and nice for you.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
