My Sister Just Diagnosed Celiac

Hi! I am a meddling little sister. I have been raising two celiac children and am adjusted to the gluten-free lifestyle. My sister is nearing 50 years old and just got diagnosed. We live accross the country from each other and she is overwhelmed. I can tell that she is not up to par and not handling information at top speed, not to mention shocked. I wish I was there for her. Anyone here live in the Glendale, CA, area and experienced celiacs? I plan to email her tips for the day while her fog clears in order not to overwhelm her. She has the Gluten-Free for Dummies Book but has not looked at it yet. I guess I just wish that I could be there and was wondering if anyone else knows of support in her area. If someone is loca, could we chat a little and then if they are willing, could I give their info to my sister and her family? Thanks in advance!!!! Oh - and she is not up to visiting the forum at this time......

Hi,

I work in Pasadena and live in Glendora. I don't know of any local support groups (although there probably are some out there) but she should know that Whole Foods Market has an entire gluten free section with all sorts of foods plus gluten free breads and bagels, etc in their bakery. Trader Joe's also sells gluten free items such as cereals and pastas. It's not that difficult to be gluten free in Southern CA.

Please feel free to send me a PM and we can discuss things.

Take care,

JoAnn

I live on the border of Burbank and Glendale. Some tips that I know of are, shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. The Whole Foods in Pasadena on Arroyo has a huge gluten free section with pretty much every kind of food imaginable.

Also, as far as restaurants go, most places are very nice and accomodating to my requests, although i would stay away from the Outback in Burbank. I am always glutened there, no matter what i say or eat there.

Please feel free to contact me for any information that might be helpful.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
