Antispasmodics?

Anyone here had any experiences, good or bad with taking antispasmodics (like hyoscyamine, Bentyl, et al) for a glutening? Or any other medication?

If you had a positive experience, what do you take and how often?

Hi, I take lomotil twice a day. I've been gluten and dairy free for one year now and I still have problems with nerve damage in the intestine. Lomotil is an RX and my GI doc says it is very safe. If I get gluttened I have to up the dosage for about one week. It has been a lifesaver for me. I suffer from anxiety from the spasms and it relieves them. You can get it over the counter in European countries and also Australia and you can order it online without a script. Look into it!

On a side note, I did try Bentyl but it made me so nauseous I could not take it.

Take care!

When I was first diagnosed, my doctor prescribed NuLev (Levsin) for me to use as needed. It was a little green mint flavored pill that dissolved under my tongue.

It worked ok--it did make me very tired. Since D was more of a problem for me than cramping, I found Immodium to be even more effective without side effects.

My doctor has no problem prescribing me Buscopan for this. I've tried other antispasmodics and this one has worked the best for me. Whenever I feel like I've been glutened, I take it and feel better within the hour. It says it can make you drowsy, but it isn't a debilitating tired (for me anyway). You can however take it up to 3 times a day if your symptoms are persistent. I just take it when I need it. I find that if I use a hot magic bag it helps also!

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
