Exactly What Tests Do I Need?

I'm going to the doctor on Monday and want to get the tests done for celiac disease. *exactly* what do I ask for (in abbreviations and long names, if you know both)? I also want to get tested for food allergies. The nurse/receptionist (not exactly sure of her title) had no idea there was a blood test for allergies - so I doubt they know anything about celiac's. One of the disadvantages to living in a small town I suppose.

This has probably been asked and answered a dozen times here, but for the life of me, I just couldn't find it!! Thank You.

The food allergies test is called RAST, and they can check for many different foods. Usually they specify the top 8-10 allergen foods on the test order form.

The celiac tests you need are:

o Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

o Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

o Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

o Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG)

o Total Serum IgA

Preferrably from a reliable lab like Prometheus. My insurance won't pay for them, so I had to do our blood tests through Quest Diagnostics. They are just not specialised enough to accurately run the celiac disease tests. Here is the website info from Prometheus.

Yep those are the tests you need done and I second Prometheus. They are an experienced lab when it comes to celiac. Also, they offer a gene test but my insurance didn't cover that part <_< but it was a good thing for me to get done

The way Prometheus works is that they run the bloodtests, and automatically run the gene test if the blood tests are negative. At least that is what their paperwork said when I filled it out for my kids. Then of course the insurance refused to pay, so the tests were actually run by Quest <_< for a second time! The reason the pedi GI ordered the Prometheus tests was they are the only lab he trusts to run celiac disease testing! He actually has worked closely with them in getting their celiac disease panel put together when he was in San Diego. Him and some of his collegues down there are the reason that they ALWAYS include the total serum IgA on their tests. Before they only included it if the doctor thought it was necessary. This pedi GI thinks a person being tested for celiac disease needs to have the total IgA count done EVERY TIME, not just when the doctor thinks it might be a good idea!

I think there is a spot on the Prometheus form where you can request to have the gene test run even if the blood is positive also.

      This article does not address migraines at all.  Yes, red wine and sulfites are often mentioned in connection with migraine triggers. With me, any kind of alcoholic beverage in very modest amounts will reliably produce a migraine. Nitrous oxide generators, which are vaso dialators, also will give me migraines reliably. So, I think most of my migraines are tied to fluctuations vascular tension and blood flow to the brain. That's why the sumatriptan works so well. It is a vaso constrictor.

      Excessive dietary tyrosine can cause problems.  Everything in moderation.   Sulfites can also trigger migraines. Sulfites are found in fermented, pickled and aged foods, like cheese.  Sulfites cause a high histamine release.  High histamine levels are found in migraine.  Following a low histamine diet like the low histamine Autoimmune Protocol diet, a Paleo diet, helps immensely.    Sulfites and other migraine trigger foods can cause changes in the gut microbiome.  These bad bacteria can increase the incidence of migraines, increasing histamine and inflammation leading to increased gut permeability (leaky gut), SIBO, and higher systemic inflammation.   A Ketogenic diet can reduce the incidence of migraine.  A Paleo diet like the AIP diet, that restricts carbohydrates (like from starchy vegetables) becomes a ketogenic diet.  This diet also changes the microbiome, eliminating the bad bacteria and SIBO that cause an increase in histamine, inflammation and migraine.  Fewer bad bacteria reduces inflammation, lowers migraine frequency, and improves leaky gut. Since I started following the low histamine ketogenic AIP paleo diet, I rarely get migraine.  Yes, I do eat carbs occasionally now, rice or potato, but still no migraines.  Feed your body right, feed your intestinal bacteria right, you'll feel better.  Good intestinal bacteria actually make your mental health better, too.  I had to decide to change my diet drastically in order to feel better all the time, not just to satisfy my taste buds.  I chose to eat so I would feel better all the time.  I do like dark chocolate (a migraine trigger), but now I can indulge occasionally without a migraine after.   Microbiota alterations are related to migraine food triggers and inflammatory markers in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse headache https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11546420/

      Then we would need to cut out all meat and fish as they are richer sources of tyrosine than nuts and cheese. Something else about certain tyrosine rich foods must be the actual culprit.

      I agree that KAN-101 looks promising, and hope the fast track is approved.
