How Long Before...

Our daughter has been gluten free (except for a few mistakes) for almost two weeks. How long before her tummy starts going down? I have seen some improvement, just wondering how long till it gets normal looking? Also, she has been on a stool softener. How long will I need to keep her on that before she will be regular again? I know each child will be somewhat different, just wanted to get some ideas of how long it took for your child?

Thanks for your help!

Our son's belly was huge. People always commented on his "pregnant belly". Within 3 weeks of going gluten-free we definitely noticed a difference (althought others didn't) but by 6 weeks it was almost completely gone and obvious to everyone.

i am very new to celiacs,my one year old is being tested and i am awaiting results, but seeing that your son had a pregnant belly it dawned on me to check out one of my 3 year old twins,we can not go anywhere without someone commenting on her belly, she also suffered exema and we switched her to lactose free everytning when she was a year and she improved and has been fine since except for the belly, her weight is very good 34lbs but she is in only the 25% for height could she has celiacs without stomach pains? if my son comes back pos i will get her tested or should i remove gluten now? my son is 2 days of and already sleeping a lot better. help?

Why not just take both kids off gluten and see what happens?

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
