Hi all,

Ok so here is a bit of background... Around 5 year ago i had a panic attack a really bad one or i think it was a panic attack atleast.. I had just finished eating my tea ( frozen shepherds pie with loads of cheese put on top ) Then decided i was gonna wash my mess up then all of a sudden my heart started pounding out my chest and really felt ill..

From that day i couldn't eat many foods without it giving me diarrhea like you can't believe and feeling really rough.. I started to eat chicken and boiled potatoes as it is pretty bland and was fine when i ate that..

Then i started with allsorts of other things now other than depression i never ever used to get sick it didn't matter what the kids got i was the 0.1% domestos couldn't kill now i always get either diarrhea or constipation really bad gas irritability, dry skin still have depression my knees hurt like hell somedays i get stomach pains blurry vision i go dizzy a lot ( not blood pressure had it checked and it is perfect apparantly ) and the list goes on...

If i eat ice cream i get real bad diarrhea i feel absolutely terrible most days i daren't eat shredded wheat last time i did i regretted it for 2 days after i wake up in the morning and feel like i have been awake all night and finish up falling asleep for an hour around 4pm..

I have had blood tests done for celiacs but when my dr did them i was doing a gluten-free diet at the docs reccomendation so the results came back negative and i left it at that at that point due to the fact that the wife has gotten to the point were she is sick of hearing it and gets annoyed when i start on about it again...

I just don't know what to do next i have been to the docs more in the last 5 years than i have the other 24 i have been alive... I am wary of going to the docs again with this as i am sure they think i am a hypocondriac by now.

I have considered the enterolab tests but due to a lack of funds i cannot afford to get the whole of the ones relevant done and have no clue which one if any to get done...

I have maintained the whole 5 year that this has to be an allergy to one food or another but the wife thinks i'm going mad and am just looking for something to be wrong with me.

If I read correctly you went back to gluten after the negative blood test. If that is the case I would go ahead and ask the doctor to retest you after you have been back on gluten for a couple of months. You do sound much like you could be one of us so even if those tests are negative you may want to give the diet another good strict try.

Yes that is correct i went back to gluten when the blood tests came back negative

if you want a dr's diagnosis, you need to be eating plenty of wheat for a couple of months to get a chance at an accurate result. you could do this now if you want.

or, since you KNOW that wheat and dairy bother you, you can eliminate them. (as more than one doctor I've had says: 'if hitting yourself over the top of the head with a brick hurts, perhaps you shouldn't hit yourself over the top of the head with a brick'. you do not need a dr's diagnosis to eat gluten-free. all you really need is confidence in yourself, and the commitment to the decision.

(I did the later option - my tests were inconclusive, but my symptoms were quite conclusive, if comparatively mild. I am now gluten and dairy free.)

I attempted to send you this info in a Priv. Message but you have a block on it; this info doesn't pertain to Celiac; but here goes:

Reason: Sometimes a gallbladder which is "misfiring" can cause IBS or celiac-like symptoms.

I am not saying that you don't have gluten or wheat intolerance issues, but you could have a combination of digestive disorder issues.

Tell your wife that it took my husband 27 years to find his diagnosis (celiac disease) ....my husband was 27 when he first got sick .....and over 10 years ago one of the top gastros here in NJ called him a hypocondriac too....I feel your and your wife's frustration of this taking so long.

Do you feel better when you eat gluten free foods? Were you 100% gluten free for over 30 days at any point? (It takes a good 3-4 weeks of being gluten free to see progress).

Please keep in touch with us here on board and we'll definitely be there to walk you through any problems or questions. It is tough when a medical condition is ruling your life and you feel you have no where to turn.

Thanks for your reply.. I have considered that it could be something else before but the thing that always brings me back to thinking it is an allergy is my two sons both suffer from really bad diarrhea too. So much so that my youngest son who is 2 has never done a bowel movement that you could consider not diarrhea.. I need to get to the bottom of it for mine and there sake but my doctors are not very helpfull at all.

I did go gluten free before at my doctors request which was for more than 30 days and yes i did feel better hence why he had blood tests done but they came back negative which i expected them to since i was gluten-free anyway.

I do appreciate all the advice however i don't feel that just go gluten free is the answer without knowing that it is the cause for definate. Last time i did it at the doctors request it was very expensive for just myself to do it but if i was to use that logic then i would have to do it for my two kids aswell as they have a lot of problems too and money is tight in my house already since i have a wife and 2 kids amongst other factors. This is why i mentioned is enterolabs tests worth trying.

In 70-year-olds, DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) levels are significantly lower than in young adults, typically around 20% of youthful levels, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) | (.gov). This decline is a natural part of aging, with DHEA production decreasing from its peak in the third decade of life. While some studies suggest potential benefits of DHEA replacement in older adults, particularly in women, results are not consistently positive across all studies.

Welcome @bold-95.   That's a tough situation.   Understanding DHEA Deficiency in Menopausal Women A major cause of hypothyroid is iodine deficiency.  In the 60's bread had 90 mcg, milk 100 mcg per cup and we used iodized table salt.  A sandwich and glass of milk supplied 300 mcg,  Now in the US bread does not use iodine as dough condition, milk has a bad name and table salt is avoided.  Net reduction from 1970 to 1984 of 50% of iodine intake.   Urinary iodine levels (mg/dL) in the United States, 6-74 years of age NHANES I, 1971-74 Median 32.00 2NHANES III, 1988-91 Median 14.5 NHANES 2000 Median 16.1 There has been a trend for increased prescribing of levothyroxine (LT4) in the United States.  LT4 was the tenth and seventh most commonly prescribed drug based on the number of prescriptions in 2005 and 2006, respectively. From 2008 to 2011 the number of LT4 prescriptions rose from 99 million to 105 million, with LT4 being the second most prescribed medication.1 From 2012 to 2016 the number of annual LT4 prescriptions increased steadily from 112 million to 123 million, with LT4 being the most prescribed medication.2,3 During 2017 and 2018 LT4 was the third most prescribed medication, with 98 million Levothyroxine prescriptions trends may indicate a downtrend in prescribing. DHEA and hypothyroidism are linked, with some evidence suggesting that low DHEA levels may be associated with hypothyroidism.
