Child Showing The Symptoms

My 12 yr old son has been showing several of the symptoms exhibited with Celiac. His 8 yr old sister was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago. The dr put him on Ranitidine about 3 months ago for stomach issues and ran the blood serum tests last week. The results came back today saying it was inconclusive. He wants to wait another 6 months before running the test again! Does this sound right? He also suggested sending him for a colonoscopy, but that won't show if it is Celiac, right? We have an appointment to go into the office next week, and I want to give him my decision by then.

Help, what advice do you have for me? Should I try him on the gluten free diet and see if the symptoms decrease? Help!!!!

Get a copy of those results and post them here for help interpretting them. It doesn't sound like he is super knowledgable. You can get another opinion here if you post the results.

I know I would be upset if my dr wanted my child to be sick for 6 more months before helping him. You are right a colonoscopy would not help a celiac disease dx. He needs an endoscopy for that. You have to decide if you want your son to have an endoscopy, if you do, insist your dr send you for that. He needs to still be eating gluten for that test. You can test negative on both tests and still be gluten intolerant so just keep that in mind.

Another thing to find out/keep in mind about the blood test: my son was tested once with negative results; then screened again a year later and was then inconclusive because his "total IgA" was low, so the antibodies won't necessarily be elevated. Apparently they never ran the "total" count the first time. His sister is positive so we're having the genetic test done-if it's positive he's going gluten-free. I would just suggest you ask if they checked total IgA. I read that they can also check IgG, but I don't know much about that.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
