Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I went out with friends to Legal Seafoods. They advertise a gluten-free menu, but as we all know, those menus usually consist of stuff like a burger without the bun, salad without croutons, etc. etc., you know, boring stuff.

Their menu had tons of stuff on it including clam chowder (in a broth instead of thick), other fish dishes, etc. I ordered the caesar salad (which they make with gluten-free croutons! :D ), and the fried calamari (yes, you read that right! They use chickpea flour in a dedicated fryer :D). The food was excellent, and for those who think their food usually looks "weird", none of the people I was with heard me order and no one would have guessed looking at the food that it was gluten-free.

I spoke with the manager, thanked him profusely, and told him I would definitely tell as many people as possible about the great food. I also ended up asking lots of questions of my server/bartender during the meal and he answered all my questions, checking with the cook if he wasn't absolutely sure. The manager was very happy that I was so satisfied with the meal, he said they work very hard to make their menus for people with allergies tasty.

If you're ever in the Boston area, go to a Legal Seafoods, you won't be disappointed. You still have to ask for the gluten-free menu, of course ;)

Aren't they amazing? The food i so good and I LOVE that they now have gluten-free bread and croutons. I am so lucky to live 10 minutes away from one!

Hi Mtn,

Are you referring to the one at the mall in Peabody? If so, are you referring to the bread crumbs or do they actually have real gluten free bread for before your meal etc.?

I wish they would do gluten-free fries, they have the dedicated friolator so you wouldn't think it'd be an issue, but I guess whoever they get the fries for must not be gluten-free, oh well, lol one can wish.

Anyways, thanks, I'm not a big seafood fan, but I'm always up for a filet mignon or burger (without bun etc.) so I'm anxious to check it out.

This is sooo exciting to hear! I just went to Michael's harborside in newburyport and had to order a plain salad and steamers to be safe. My mom, dad, and husband enjoyed fried clams ect. and I was so jelous! I will definitely have to check it soon :D

Next time you are craving fried clams try Woodman's of Essex. They have a large restaurant in Essex, MA with gluten free fried seafood and recently opened a smaller place in Litchfield, NH. Highly recommended!

I was just thinking this (and my name is Bev too!) :D Woodman's is CRAZY good and you have everything EXCEPT the clam cakes, onion rings and buns. You can have French fries tiill you never want to see another one!

I saw that Michae's Harborside had gluten-free menu options and we called once to see what it was all about, but the options seemed very boring, so we never ventured out there. The place right across the bridge, Stripers, was able to accomodate me a week or two ago with a really good filet mignon. They also told us on the phone they had a dedicated friolator for fries, but when we got there the hostess checked and said they couldn't gaurantee that another cook hadn't used it that day for something else (like the fourth time between chain restaurants and local restaurants that I got the OK on the phone and then the dissapointing news when I got there, 99 and Sylvan Street grill has done the same, although a couple times they said the friolator was fine and had fries with no problems...so I don't even know anymore with them)

Anyways, hate getting my hopes up with the whole dedicated friolator and then seeing them fall apart, that's why I love Burtons Grill and Woodmans (oh and Wendy's of course lol), never an issue, they rule (I work in Ipswich although I live in NH, so I find every reason to make an trip to Woodmans for lunch at least once a week since there's nothing in Ipswich good for gluten-free except for a Thai place which I'm not crazy about.)

I agree....Burton's is amazing and has one of the BEST gluten-free menu's I have ever seen. Ditto for Woodman's...their clams are simply the best. I drive an hour and 15 minutes to get there so that goes to show how good the place is. I think the main difference is that both of these places have Celiacs in the family and that makes all the difference!

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
