Celiac And Msg

Tabasco

Whenever I eat Chinese food I always feel sick about half an hour later. Could this be the MSG or the gluten...or both?

Now that I think about it, there are many times when I have felt sick after eating certain foods. Mostly restaurant foods. Hmmm...is there a trend here?

Probably. MSG might bother you. High fructose corn syrup really gets to me. Not all Chinese restaurants use MSG, though, so perhaps if you find one that doesn't, you could try Chinese food again to narrow things down? Also, are you sure there's no soy sauce in your food?

I'd guess wheat in the soy sauce. Many people do have problems with MSG but it isn't a gluten reaction. Cross-contamination from the prep area (most Chinese restaurants put some type of coating on some of their items such as sweet and sour chicken) is another possiblity.

Going on a cruise next week and I’m a celiac. Bought a bottle of GliandinX. Should I just take two tablets per day as a precaution? Never tried this before!! Any help is appreciated!!

Good point, as thyroid conditions are more common in those with celiac disease: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/thyroid-pancreatic-disorders-and-celiac-disease/
