Has Anyone Tried Vital Nutrients Sleep Aide?

I just got this supplement from my doctor. It says it is for relief of occasional sleeplessness. I have insomnia almost every night. My doctor is concerned about how I am going to react to this supplement because I am so super sensitive to so many things. This contains passionflower herb, lemon balm leaf, hops strobile, california poppy herb, valeriana officinals root, L-theanine, lavender essential oil and melatonin. I currently take L-theanine and melatonin at a higher dose than what is in this supplement. I don't seem to have any bad side effects from them. However, some nights I sleep and some nights I don't.

I know some people that use this forum have had good luck with valerian, which I'm guessing is what this valeriana officinalis root is. Anyone tried some of the other ingredients?

I hope I hear from some of you. It is scary starting something new because when I do react, it can take close to 48 hours to get out of my system. My reaction is usually extreme anxiety and agitation.

This supplement contains no binders, gluten, wheat, yeast, milk/dairy, corn protein, soy protein, eggs, sugar, hydrogenated oil, artificail coloring, artificial flavoring or preservative. If and when I try it, I'll let you know. If I chicken out, I can always return it unopened to my doctor and get a refund. It cost about $30 for 60 capsules and recommends 1 or 2 capsules 15-30 minutes before bedtime. Not a bad price if it works for me. Bad price though if I have to discontinue it after the first try.

It's me again responding to my own post. This sleep supplement did not work for me. My doctor was concerned that it wouldn't since I am sensitive to so many things. I gave it a try and didn't get any sleep. I felt pretty relaxed but just couldn't sleep. Money down the drain once again.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
