Hi!

I've read here that shampoos are far safer for celiacs if they are gluten-free. The reason given was the unintended take-up through the mouth of suds. Couldn't the same happen with soaps and/or detergents if you ate just after wshing your hands? A small amount remaining on the hands might be enough to cause a reaction.

Can anyone say is this is correct? And, if it is, what soap/detergent products are recommended?

Yep that can happen...I use all gluten free products.

Well for dishwasher detergent-Cascade

For laundry detergent-Arm and Hammer

Bar soaps for showers I use Dove...they won't hide anything on the labels

Liquid hand soap I use Softsoap

And I bring Purell with me in my pocketbook so I don't have to use public soap because that can contain gluten.

Soaps should be gluten-free, detergent shouldn't matter unless you have dh.

How about Dial day care for liquid soap? Or is there a list? I did not see it on the celiac.com list.

Does anyone know if Tide detergent is safe. And fabric softners snuggle, downey.

I have been writing the companies but they take some time for an answer.

      This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to...

      I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
