Gliadin Ab Iga

i just got an endoscopy done and also a full blood panel. i'm waiting to hear back the results. my food allergist found that my gliadin ab (iga) was at 32 with the reference range <11 u/mL. i'm feeling awful. is it safe to say that there is definitely some kind of gluten allergy going on or could this be something else? thanks for any tips before i can get back in to the doc!

Yes that was a postive test for celiac. Since you are done with testing start the diet. You could already have a great deal of relief by the time you go back for the results.

also, what exactly is Deam. Gliadin Pep. IgA and IgG? is it the same as what i mentioned previously? my thyroid doctor did a test of these and they were in the normal range. just curious if they are the same thing and if so, why the # would be so different. my Deam IgA was 5 and Deam IgG was 1.

Why would one gliadin antibody IgA be at 32 and the "Deam. Gliadin Pep. IgA" read 5? are they two completely different things?

Two different labs did the testing which were about a month apart. I had my thyroid doc retest while I was giving blood (which was the one that read 5) but she didn't seem to know too much about it and said to take the two results into my gi doc.

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

      Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

      It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
