Cd And Mirena Coil

Hi, this is a great site - lots of good advice! I wonder if anyone has any on this rather specific aspect of being a celiac?

Like many of you I just found I am GI after having the symptoms forever (I'm 45). Huge, huge relief to be rid of the distressing symptoms which had turned me into a social pariah - they went after just 3 weeks of being gluten-free! One of these was constant, very heavy and painful menstrual bleeding - for which I had been on the pill since 16 until 3 yrs ago I had the mirena coil fitted as it was realised that the migraines (2 or 3 a week), erratic heart beat and associated chest pains I'd had for years were attributed to the pill. Having the coil fitted reduced but didn't eliminate the constant bleeding, but being gluten free has! I've done experiments on myself and found that eating one bread roll always results in a return of heavy bleeding and cramps after 30 hrs and it lasts for 3 days, so pretty conclusive it is a symptom of GI. Now I am gluten-free I realise being GI affected all my body tissue linings - skin, stomach, uteris and lungs - wierd!

I am now thinking of getting the coil removed as maybe I don't need it any more and since having it fitted I seem to have, in effect, gone through the menopause, (I have been tested as non-menopausal though) - all the symptoms except the hot flushes (shrunk 3cm, aged 15yrs, lost 2/3 of my hair). I understand being GI can mean increased risk of cancer and osteoporosis (both a problem in my family) and am worried about compounding this by retaining the coil, especially when I do go through the menopause I will no doubt experience a repeat of these effects! My doctor says there is no link between celiac disease and period problems and I should not have the coil removed but I would really appreciate any experience/advice out there!

I have insisted on a medical check to get tested for other products as I think I am dairy intolerant too (a homeopath suggested I was GI when I was trying to find remedies for severe constipation and flatuence - cutting out gluten was brilliant as I had been on an all-bran, wholemeal diet up till then!). Also, I have been told by my GP I will have to eat bread for 3 weeks before I have the test so the effects can be assessed - I dread the prospect! I am on a waiting list to go on a waiting list for a check up (great UK NHS!) and would like to go with as good an understanding of the topic as possible.

Sorry this is long winded!!

I've had menstrual problems as well, and have experienced some changes since going gluten-free. As far as the Mirena, my doctor told me that it is the estrogen in bc pills that is to blame for the increased health risk (I'm getting one soon). Since Mirena uses progesterone (sp?) and also is not systemic like the pill it shouldn't have those extra risks associated with it.

What really bothers me is if worrying about getting cc‘d from touching the same door knob as others touched is valid. Seems like an extremely unlikely way to get glutened but i read people saying that.    If thats true then theres realistically zero chance i dont get cc‘d in a non gluten-free household unless i Cook Everything myself and wash my hands multiple times in between and store all of my stuff separately

Welcome to the forum, @Mrs. Cedrone! Among the various causes for canker sores, are "Nutritional problems like too little vitamin B12, zinc, folic acid, or iron" https://www.webmd.com/oral-health/canker-sores Could you be deficient on something?

I have been a diagnosed Celiac for over 30 years.  If I even get any type of cross contamination I end up in the hospital.  Recently I have been getting "cankers".  I am assuming that this is a result from something I am eating.  any insight would be greatly appreciated.  I follow an extremely strike diet as result and this is something new that has popped up.  I still get very ache sometimes and fatigued.  Thank you.

This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
