is a site in Japanese about a new bread maker that uses rice flour and is geared towards the reduction of wheat use in Japan.

Gopan __ gohan is rice and pan is bread

The increase of wheat allergies and celiac in Japanese youth is sometimes attributed to the adoption of many western dietary habits --

The machine wil be on sale form October for just under $500.00

Looks good!

My husband has been sharing gluten-free info. on a Japanese forum where there are some Japanese parents who's kids are gluten-free, due to allery I believe and a Japanese friend here occasionally runs across Japanese people in the asian market who are wheat-free or gluten-free. I'm always greatful that when we bring gluten-free baked goods to functions where there are alot of Japanese people, they easily accept them, after all, rice flour is familiar, it's funny to see the difference in body language, the Americans usually hold back a bit, even if just subtly. Made a great blueberry mochiko cake recently, for the first time(for kiddo ;) ), that everyone loved.

How are you Ken? Been thinking of you. Hope all is well.

We were watching the news from thailand today and they were talking about this machine. We are going there in November and who knows, might come home with one. Sure sounds interesting doesn't it.

Hello that was very helpful. I looked at the web site and they are going to set up a pop-up store to promote the product in association with Zip Zap however the bread they will be selling at the store will contain gluten. However, when the machine goes on sale there will be a "Wheat-Zero" course available so we can make rice bread without gluten.

Do you think they will sell it at Bic Camera?

Hanging in there, thanks. Next month I'll head to a clinic in Calif for 3 weeks and try to get myself back in balance with the heart issues, celiac and diabetes.

In 2005 I went to a seminar in Tokyo on growing wheat and gluten allergies of Japanese school children.

It's getting pretty bad with soaring rates of affected kids.

I think we will start to see a lot more products and machines like this one..

take care

I can see it being sold at BIC camera, especially the larger stores like Ikebukuro or the old Yurakucho Sogo store. ( Love that place!)

Here's a YOU TUBE video.

Apparently one can just put the whole grain in and the machine will turn it into bread! Sounds very convenient for Japanese people who always have raw rice on hand! After seeing that I started to understand the cost.;)Very interesting. Unfortunately, the rice bread recipe that is shown in this video had gluten added as an ingredient. :(

Ken,

DH came home just now and started to tell me about this machine and I told him "Ken beat you to it!"

Hope your time in the clinic in CA is helpful. Take Care.

Thanks for the youtube link. -- the mixing process is just like the big mochi making machines we have here. Used to bring them in to chicago and then Kona for the hongwanji to use for mochi tsuki.

I think its easy to make the bread without gluten and just a matter of coming up with 50gm of something suitable.

take care

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.

      Thanks for your input.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.
